Project Runway All Stars Season 5

Valerie’s jumpsuit is something seen in current fashion magazines. There was no design. I actually loved the fabric Emily ended up with–the sheer with the polka dots. If she had more red solid fabric, she could have made something really spectacular. And WTF is “evening wear resort???”

No kidding. Why on EARTH would you put that many lines of stitching in a fabric that a) pulls with every stitch, and b) reflects every stitch. The fewer seams the better with that stuff.

(Side note: I have a brand new sewing machine and an invitation to a private estate sale of a long-time seamstress Saturday. $3 per yard all fabric)

They were each given an envelope that told them which fabric to use.

Going through the photos in the link provided by twickster reminds me that this is the first time I have totally disliked something of Kini.
There have been other times where I thought he could do better, but the only thing I can compliment this look on is the color.

And I see what you guys are saying about Layana’s dress, but the judges seemed to mainly criticize the top, which I didn’t see any problems with.

A recap of Sam’s season so far:

Episode 1
Episode 2 (winner)
Episode 3 (Kini did a significant amount on the top, which Sam didn’t acknowledge, and their team came in second)
Episode 4 (winner)
Episode 5 (low score)
Episode 6 (came in second)
Episode 7 (came in third)

Okay, I’d been (mentally) unfair to him – I though he hadn’t done anything but flowing dresses with halter tops. Not true. When he does well, though, that’s what he does – or he has Kini completing his garment for him.

Here’s the scoreboard for those who, like me, cannot remember specifics more than an hour after watching the show.

Can I say something horrible??? Who is dressing Alyssa Milano? She always looks like a stuffed sausage. And she can’t walk. She walks like she is super constipated.

I’m all for having a host who isn’t a 6’2" size 0. But there is a way to dress a shorter, plumper person… without having it look like she’s a sausage in a casing about to bust. UGH

Agree.

Though she’s better now than when she was pregnant, when she looked like the pregnant Lucille Ball of the '50s.

It’s like the show’s stylist hates her or something. Also the makeup artist - her eyebrows have looked wonky for the past 2-3 shows.

Argh. That made me get mad about Fade’s elimination all over again. :smack:

So Sam just half-asses a dress with very little work; He doesn’t notice that one sleeve is slightly longer than the other until it’s pointed out to him, and he’s safe? Da fuq?

And Asha’s winning dress? Really? I have a feeling if it was made last week it would have been on the bottom, or safe at a maximum.

And frankly I didn’t hate what’s her name’s half yellow dress. I thought she should have been safe.

I wanted Dom to win. Her Tinkerbelle was on point.

W T Everloving F. Why the F is Sam still there? What gets me is his cluelessness – he seemed to think this was as good as any of his other looks, when it was garbage. Is he clueless or just faking the overconfidence? And huge Clark Kent glasses are not his friend.

Asha?! Safe at best. They didn’t like that neckline much on the pantsuit last week and this week it’s the best thing on the show? Seriously, are they high?

Dom and Kini were the only imginative ones, and even Kini needs to stop with the denim already. “So I’m going to make a denim look…” NO? YOU??! Hard to believe. I think he should have won for being the best interpretation of his character.

Speaking of stylists – please someone help Zanna with her hair.

I’m voting clueless.

They took me by surprise when I saw them, and I was like wtf?

Do not know why they keep downgrading her outfits. This, for instance, was merely “safe.”

God, andthat dress – “Here, let’s find something godawful fugly to put Zanna in for the storybook challenge!”

Dom was robbed last night. That outfit was perfect for the challenge and the character. The negative space ‘wings’ were brilliant. I saw her drawing and thought WTF, but when it came together it was magic.

I like Asha and usually like her designs, but she is MOR and so was last night’s outfit. Sam phoned it in and of course he stayed. I am sure it’s because he’s such a drama magnet. Otherwise can’t explain why he coasts and keeps winning and/or staying. He did some really good work on Under the Gunn, but not so much here.

Zanna usually looks like she just rolled out of bed and fell into whatever piece of clothing was on the floor by the bed. She’s an awful visual representative of her employer. I’d have given her a pass if it was just one night - everyone can have a cold or some other reason for a bad hair day - but it’s chronic.

I am getting more pissed the more I think about Sam’s critique. They switch to the Marchesa woman and I am getting ready for her to rip him a new one over the garbage he put up there, and she starts into “There’s a modernity here…” :smack::mad: Yeah, a crop top and pencil skirt are more modern than what the fairytale Little Mermaid would have worn, very true. I mean Zanna tells him celebrate the LM’s freedom in having legs so her puts her in a pencil skirt. It wasn’t just boring and rudimentary, it was embarrassingly, startlingly bad. And the pieces on a crop top are what got the NYC skyline aufed as someone mentioned, but they have the nerve to act like Sam’s is in any way passable.

But maybe Alexander did commit the worse sin by being a costume designer and doing such a bad job.

Has he done the upside-down umbrella thing in denim yet? :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought Kini was going to be in the bottom. Haaaated it. It was a big ass ruffle weighing down the back of the dress. Then the styling: glitzy necklace, ankle socks and heels…the way they raved over the little white collar.

Dom, brilliant. My feeling is that they didn’t want to have her win twice in a row because that would tip their hand that she’s going to win again. So many viewers are against winners being invited back for All Stars to begin with. I think Sam will be there until the end and Ken who has done some fine work and is getting the redemption edit.

Asha’s outfit was fairly mundane. I thought Layana was going to be sent home although I liked her dress. I don’t have a problem with Alexander being gone though.

Agree, 100%. I also liked Kini’s but agree that he’s done too much denim.

I did think Alexander’s was the worst – it didn’t evoke Cinderella at all, he should have been brilliant, it was boring (and I agree, more evil step-mother than Cinderella.)

Hee. No, but he did the upside down umbrella thing on a dress earlier this season. I really want to like him but he is wearing thin.
