Project Runway April 15 2010: Finale Part 1

The only thing in that house that wasn’t black and white were her parents.

Project Rungay (TLo) has stills.

If one parent were white and the other were black, that would officially be the funniest thing in the history of reality television.

No way. If that was what she said, it never would have made it to air. She called him a “little fucker.” And I highly *highly *doubt that someone who works as a fashion designer, who was a contestant on Project Runway, would call another contestant a “faggot” in a derogatory way in an interview on camera! That just wouldn’t happen.
I am rooting for Seth Aaron. Those collection we saw at his house were all immaculately made, and really cool. I didn’t really get Tim’s objection to them. Yes, I suppose, if the judges expect well-made, well-fitting clothing with jackets, pants and multi-piece outfits, then sure, Seth Aaron created just what they’d expect.

Emilio’s stuff was butt-ugly. So. Freaking. Ugly, that I thought it was all a put on or something. Seriously, all his stuff looked like something that has been sitting in your grandmother’s closet for 60 years. That green/brown/babypoo color was just wrong.

Wow. That’s amazing Adam’s Apple reading skills you have there. No way in hell she would have said “faggot.” It didn’t even occur to me. I assume she said “little fuck,” because that’s the phrasing most natural to me, but “little fucker” works, too.

According to Entertainment Weekly, though, it’s “little fucking kid.”

I mean, really? A wannabe bigshot fashion designer referring to one of her colleagues as a “little faggot?” on national TV? Does this pass anybody’s sniff test?

Just watched this episode.

What. The. Fuck. ???

I was sure, after seeing the three looks they sent down the runway, that Jay was going through. I was even more sure of it when they said that one of their main criteria was “Who do we want to see more of?”

But i also said to my wife, about a minute before they made the decision, “They’re making it seem like Jay is going to win. I’m worried that it means that Mila wins.”

Sure enough, Jay got the winning edit in the discussion, but it was just a decoy.

Fuck.

I also though that when Mila was less confident and Jay was super cocky, that it was a set up for pride goeth before an aufing.

Mila said faggot. I taped it and played it back over and over again. The word ends in a T where the tongue goes behind the upper teeth. An R would would have no tongue and her lips extending forward. Why are people building a wall around her. It’s hate speech. So she worked in TV, you don’t think there is homophobia in Hollywood. Really, you don’t. Maybe she is just a nasty person and got caught up in the moment. People with large egos will spew in front of a camera because it makes them feel important. The gay community should let Project Runway know how they feel about airing that clip. She said it. They aired it. That’s all she wrote.

Well, does the fact that Proj Runway aired it mean that they endorse her? Maybe they showed it because they wanted us to see her as a villain. Which people already do so far.

I think the editing was mean to create controversy and bring out the scolds. And no, I don’t think Mila called Jay a “faggot.”

Anybody’s personality can be shaped to fit the editor’s whims. If you read Tim Gunn’s blog, he apparently didn’t get along at all with Jay (though they did have a rapprochement towards the end) but you don’t really see that on the show. Whatever makes the best storyline is what viewers are going to see.

FWIW, I didn’t like either collection. Mila’s was boring and Jay’s clothes were ugly not to mention uwearable. Jay’s collection seems to be a heavy favorite on the internets but I would really like to see what all the women praising his clothes would look like with all the extra fabric he would add to their hips, ass and shoulders. I don’t think the results would be attractive although they would be ready for a soccer game with his shin guards.

The way they tend to get tricky with the edit is why I believe Emilio will pull it out. Just like the time he used the graffitti. In the work room, it looked whack, but on the runway it looked hot. I think the fact that he won 4 of the last 4 challenges kinda forces PR to give him a bad edit, lest there be no suspense! But I could be coloring it how I want to see it, cause like I said, I am rooting for him.

The funny thing about the ‘faggot’ debate is that I googled it to try to see if I could find some kind of insight into it. Sure enough, the very first google hit is my own words from this thread.

ETA: I am cracking up at valley’s post, because I love clothes that emphasize the hips, ass and shoulders! I’m always seeking them out, and I just paid to have someone add some big fluffy matterial to the shoulders of my favorite black blazer. But I know I am the exception, not the rule.

I erased it unfortunately, but if someone who still has it could try watching with the Closed Captioning on, I’d be grateful. Does it tell you what she said? I’d like to re-watch it. The possibility of it being two words, “f’ing kid” hadn’t occurred to me.

All admirable and insightful. But what did she really say? I think the gay community, who has supported Project Runway, deserves and answer. Lifetime could post it on Youtube without the Bleep and that would solve the controversy. Of course I’m sure they could alter it so she said Queen Victoria with technology, but Heidi - I’m speaking to you - it’s your show, do the right thing and show the REAL clip, unedited, un altered and unbleeped. Easy Peasy

Jesus, i think people are reading way too much into the whole Mila thing.

I don’t like Mila very much, and i definitely thought Jay should have gone to Bryant Park, but i really don’t see how anyone can get “faggot” from lipreading her in that scene. Her whole mouth basically doesn’t move AT ALL while she says the word—whatever word it is.

I actually went to the trouble to transfer my recording to my computer, extract the relevant section, and upload it to YouTube. You can see it here if you like.

I concede that there’s a possibility that she says “faggot” (i doubt it), but there’s no way you can get that from reading her lips unless you’re projecting.

Emilio’s insecurity and resultant braggadocio is almost as off-putting as his damn lisp. I know he can’t help the lisp, but damn, it’s annoying. I hope Seth Aaron wins. I like the humor in his clothing. Mila’s work is more wearable, but I like his more.

Did anyone catch that Tim hugged everyone except Emilio? Tim shook his hand and looked away when he said “good to see you again.” His body language was so revealing it was funny.

No, later they said it came down to “who was ready”. Which means, they picked Mila because this was her last chance for greatness whereas Jay would benefit merely from being on the show (and being the “secret decoy” at the fashion show) and was young enough to build on his fame and go on from there.

As far as her comment, in tone it was definitely tasteless, but it was bleeped so only lip readers know for sure.

Personally I liked Jay’s better, and more importantly, by the metric of “want to see more” he wins hands down. Mila’s is good, and maybe even more wearable/sellable, but do we want to see more of it? NO! It’s just going to be more black and white blocking with maybe some token color thrown in. Jay’s may be future/sci-fi and need some editing, but we’re still dying to know what he’ll come up with. Fuck the comment that the judge shouldn’t be editing. This is a frigging fashion show. The point is to astound! And then then edit it later for sellability.

But whatever. They threw Mila a bone. This was her last chance. Jay will be fine. I’m OK with that. Anyone have a link to Jay’s decoy show?
