Sorry, Honey! The memory is an odd thing!!
Also at previously.tv, someone posted a recap of the Unconventional Materials challenge which was the first time Swapnil wasn’t Safe (1st ep) or Top Three (next 5 eps). Heidi and Nina were intrigued by his stripped wire top and weren’t too upset by the muslin skirt (I remember it being more of a sticking point but whatever). Zac exploded (and I do remember this because it was right out of the blue) and he said he was tired of giving Swapnil a pass. Say what? !!! He was safe in the next episode (wool plaid bow tie top and chiffon skirt) and then in the bottom again (leopard print dress for mass market) and then out.
It’s on tonight. Let’s see how Swapnil’s aufing lit a fire underneath all those lazy [sic], immature [sic] designers.
The only garment remotely avant garde was Kelly’s, and she got the win. It was a bit literal but I enjoyed it. Candice’s was just a red satin mermaid dress with ugly godets, and Merline’s was a copy of Kini’s umbrella dress from last season, and LeeAnne’s final collection from season 5. This season, while refreshingly drama-free, has been the biggest snooze-fest in terms of design.
Final 3 will be Edmond, Kelly, and Candice. I don’t care who wins.
Tim hasn’t used his save yet and it’s almost over. Does anyone think he’ll bring back Merline? Maybe Swapnil, but I doubt it.
I can’t believe Ashley’s Pro Wrestling cape and relatively safe outfit was gushed over by the judges. Even though she was in the bottom two, their comments were far too kind, IMHO.
Candace’s red dress fit like a glove (as, to be fair, did Ashley’s pants), but was just a red carpet gown.
Merline’s dress was such a copy of Kini’s, and I’m glad the judges brought that up. Googling “umbrella skirt” you don’t come up with images like that, so it must be a rarity, rather than a fashion icon.
I liked Edmond’s gown, but didn’t really see anything avant-garde in it. That black veil was a stroke of genius, though. It really elevated that dress.
Kelly? Well, it was the most avant-garde, but not attractive.
Here’s a photo array of some of the previous years’ avant-garde looks.

Previously, when he’s used his save, it’s been in the designer’s lounge, immediately – “the judges say you’re going home, I say you’re not!” I don’t think he can come back later and reinsert someone into the competition.
On another topic – was I the only person thinking Elvis when I saw Ashley’s cape?
And Honey – you’re right about the sleeves on the first look, but I’m not crazy to not remember them: there was a brief glimpse in last nights “Previously…” montage, and he’d put on one sleeve, on the arm farther away from the camera – the arm closer to the camera was bare.

If someone showed me that outfit without saying it was supposed to be avant garde and inspired by a bridge, I would have thought it was a Greek choir robe inspired by the Sydney opera house.
Yes! The cream/taupe gown with the huge fan – Christian and the other fellow’s – is what I compare everything to.
I’m glad they mentioned Kini’s dress too – I was thinking, that skirt looks so familiar…?
Ho hum boring. I don’t know what Ashley was thinking. And at least have your model wear underwear that matches her skin more closely!
I am for Edmund. He’s been consistently good if boring. He deserves it just for persistence in trying out every year!
I mean, look at this. Compared to things like this, all of this season are just dead boring.

Seriously? “I see things in 3-d” ummm we all do.
Ha! Yes, I giggled at that too.

Speak for yourself…I’m stereoblind. My non-dominant eye just provides peripheral vision.
wow. sorry.
Mind. Blown. I can’t believe the final three.

OK, who else is betting Edmond will get the TG save? They didn’t show Tim sending Edmond to the workroom to clean up his space. And Tim had to feel a tiny bit responsible for encouraging him to use the hideous sequins and not perfect the serviceable and at-least-as-good-as-Candace’s fuchsia dress. I thought that one looked nice, with a gorgeous color and an interesting neckline and bustle.
On the other hand, Edmond can’t be so afraid of color that that’s how crazy it makes him. What a trainwreck he created.
Ashley better live up to what she said, and stop with the unconfidence. If I hear her say one more time about how now she is uncertain, I will put my foot through the TV.
I’m thinking Edmond will get the TG save as well.
Next week they will show a mini collection and then one will be sent home.
Yeah, the lack of a TG-sendoff was quite conspicuous, as was the reminder early in the ep that TG still has a save. Sucker bet.
Plenty of designers have been waved through to the finals based on their body of work. Edmond should have been one of them. The whole “one week you’re in, the next week you’re out” is a load of BS. I agree, Edmond’s design was dated and bad, and I cringed when he picked the sequined fabric. It looked so cheap. But he could have worked it into the second fuchsia dress he cobbled together and at sent something that wasn’t short, tight, and shiny. Which are right up Heidi’s alley so I was surprised she didn’t work harder for Edmond.
Yikes, that was rough.
Kelly-- totally agree that these looked cheap and dated and made in a day. Maybe she should have shown ones with more of the intricate detail she did. That “flesh” “invisible” fabric should be burned to a crisp. I’m not sure it can be saved.
Edmund - Meh. They looked fine to me but nothing groundbreaking. Must everything be neoprene or scuba?
Candace - I actually liked hers the best for the creativity but agree it’s costume. Kiss of death being compared to McQueen. Their final advice to her is “be yourself”. Um, have you met Candace? That collection is totally her.
Ashley-- I guess I didn’t expect much, but shit, as an obese woman the last thing I need to wear is gathered quilted fabric!! We’re judged on what we wear so you have exposed wavy zippers? WTF! Seven weeks and you have the chance to create something new and exciting for plus-size women and you make pastel MOB dresses? As they sometimes say, what she was wearing was more exciting than what she made. And yeah, that purple thing was done in a day but throw in a lining! So embarrassing to watch those walk and yet they didn’t rip her a new one. Odd.
Edmond is my favorite of the final 4, but WTF was up with him coming to NY with 3 pieces left to finish??? I was proud that Kelly said words to the effect of “all my looks are done, I can’t imagine coming with work left to do.” Candace tried too hard and her pieces were overdesigned. I just can’t with Ashley. Her stuff looked so cheap and what “plus size” woman wants to wear crop tops and circle skirts to make their asses look even bigger? Girl has no clue. Kelly–I admire her enthusiasm and growth. I don’t know what “street wear” is really so I can’t judge, but truthfully, I liked the wood fabric.
The season is totally MEH and I don’t care who wins.
