Project Runway starts tonight. Anyone watching?

Hee. And Cornelius “WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO MEEEEE?” At first I thought, how self-centered, everyone is having issues, and then I realized he’s just young. The world is all about him. It would have been fun if someone said, no shade but that’s a fugly swimsuit.

At least he didn’t mention how he knows nothing about vaginas. Which reminds me of the first iteration of his emoji dress – an outline of a trapezoid hovering over the private area. Thank goodness that was updated – to a smilie face hovering over the private area!

Well, that was underwhelming.

Since when does adding crappy embellishments to garments “elevate” them?!! Please tell me that yellow dress wasn’t more Neoprene. The only truly good piece was Laurence’s leather jacket.

And Mah Jing – everyone else sacrificed themself and he turned around and said Alex! They took me in and made me feel a part of the group and – shove…

I was sure Tim would use his save, early as it is.

I’m glad Tonya got money she needed, but a yellow tube skirt is the sum of her contribution? Please go home now.

Generally, though, these seem like classier people overall, who did their best to work together.

Yeah, it seemed like Tim Gunn was gonna use his save. He should have.

I noticed that, too. I can’t believe they messed up so badly in picking the designers. I mean, who wants classy?

I keed, I keed. I actually found it touching that they were so honorable.

Overall, though, a bland show. Laurence’s jacket was nice, but that’s all I remember.

The claws came out a little bit this week.

I was wondering why they kept highlighting Erin and Dex stroking one another and being so very proud of themselves. Dex created a Cousin Itt dress!

I think Laurence should have won far and away from the rest, but I’m thinking they gave it to Jenny (?) because it would foment drama since she stole Erin’s (questionable) technique. “I did this all on my own”-- hrm? When Erin did the same thing last week? I liked the concept of a less-fitted cocktail dress but I thought it looked too crafty.

And they did a recap of the yellow coat, just reminding me of my confusion on why they loved it. It was barely mauve (Heidi called it beige) and even so, just because one person loves bright yellow and the other loves mauve, there’s no reason to put them together! Plus those hideous embellishments. WHY??!?

What a relief to see Tasha gone. She just never really offered ANYTHING. Mah-Jing’s was terrible, much worse than Erin’s, but I guess they had to emphasize the “one day you’re in, next day you’re out”. I could have sworn someone did a brocade and feathers look they liked one time, but it was better colors I think.

I hated Jenny’s dress. On top of stealing the idea, which they even called her on, I thought the hem wasn’t quite right.
Laurence should have taken this one.
Sorry to see Tasha go, but her designs haven’t been good the past few weeks.

I am watching, because I sew and every year since season 3 or 4 I have said I wasn’t going to watch, yet here I am every season. But PR is the only reality show I watch…because I keep it classy that way.

I completely agree with those of you have said that this year’s crop of designers is a big improvement over the last few seasons, both in content and character.

The last episode isn’t so fresh in my mind at the moment, but it always induces eye rolls from me when I hear a designer say “this isn’t what I do”, especially when it is something like a cocktail dress. For reals? Little cocktail dresses are a mainstay, who doesn’t “do” that? I think it was Mah Jing who said it this time, but I am not sure.

And I was so sure Tim was going to use his save for Alex! Maybe he will do it at the top of the next episode, he has done that before, so I am holding out hope. Alex deserves it, especially after what he said about how Tim G inspired him and he took his advice to heart and worked on his skills. Him being there seemed to elevate everyone else’s integrity. Except Mah Jing’s it seems!

Appliqué has been around for centuries. Erin didn’t invent it, and Jenny didn’t “steal” it.

OTOH, Laurence should have won. Her dress was on fleek, dammit.

OTOOH, I like it when the wins get spread around. Laurence looks like an early front runner, though, along with Erin. No one else has stood out to me yet.

So it was nice to see so many went for pants this week, which shows more skill, but maybe I am just old and crusty, but I cannot abide a dropped crotch! Why is that so popular? They were unfortunate on MC Hammer in 1991, and they still are!

Erin has been a huge disappointment the last 2 weeks. Her shorts this week looked like one of those prehistoric birds at the amusement park had a projectile poo attack on her girl. She was deservedly gutted by the judges on the runway. I haven’t loved everything she has done, but this girl is way off her game.

Nina loved that hump shoulder insect-looking thing of Dexter’s? ??? Heidi & Zack hated it, so good. Zack’s Military Mickey comment was dead on!

Natalia’s looked so lumpy & frumpy, I am surprised Heidi, who likes everything short & tight, loved it so much as did the others. I pegged it for the bottom, it was so ill-fitting and shapeless!

Brick’s was a walking TV test pattern. The judges hated it, I agree. Nobody wants to wear anything sewn from a shower curtain.

Laurence, oh my, her girl looked like she is hung like John Holmes…but the judges slobbered all over it. Again, I do NOT get the love for these dumpy diaper pants with wonky crotches! I like Laurence’s clothes from the waist up.

Cornelius, I agree with the judges it was sloppy & amateur.

Jenny was safe, but I really liked her two-piece pant set, I would wear that. It looked like it had some machine quilting effects, which I thought was cool. At least it had a proper fit.

Laurence for the win, her’s was the best made, and she did 3 completed pieces.

Glad Natalia didn’t win, she just got lucky this week.

Brick is out, but he has been teetering on the brink for the whole time. At least he can sew, he just picks butt-ugly fabrics. With maturity his taste may improve. Cornelius can’t sew, but on PR, that seems not to matter.

Over the years of watching PR, the judges are so inconsistent. Is is just to create reality show drama? Sometimes you get sent home for poor sewing, other times you stay if they think you have enough “vision” even if it is glued together and falling part. Your vision can get you sent home if it is too wacky, because the worst sin is to bore them. It is always a line between being boring and whatever they think is innovative this week. The exception to their judging whims? Boring AND badly sewn? Bye, bitch!

Laurence won this week when she should have won last week

Corny should have been aufed for both terrible conception and awful construction. He should spend waaay more time on design and construction and waaay less time shading other contestants in talking heads. One can only get away with bitchy shading if one has the goods onesself.

I finally understood how Natalia won a place in this contest. Her outfit, while not something I particularly liked, was on point with the street wear aesthetic the designers were asked to produce. It is a shame the judges awarded this week’s win based on last week’s oversight.

I am a bit surprised that no one saw Michael Jackson in Laurence’s jacket. I don’t believe she saw it herself, to be perfectly fair. As always, it was beautifully made. I give her full points for admitting upfront that her pants weren’t made correctly.

I think Brik sunk himself - and he k ew it - when he chose to make pants. The judges had made it clear in previous challenges that they didn’t like his pants. And woe betide anyone who insists on presenting anything the judges have professed not to like in previous shows.

Shocking how Erin has circled the drain in the last two challenges. I thought she had this season in the bag during the first 2-3 weeks. I didn’t dislike last week’s dress like the judges did, but this week’s outfit was a disaster.

I love Laurence and I hope she takes it, and I recognize the skill in this week’s look, but I thought Natalia should have gotten it for being truest to the theme. I like the oversized proportions of the jacket (sewing not so great on parts of it). But Zac did give her too much praise for a simple design with a blah pallette.

Nina and the Military Mickey - I would respect if she had praised him for trying something, but had tempered her comment as the other woman did – if you are going to do it, it needs to be impeccable. Those “ears” were terribly done and a very odd choice to begin with. Even if he had exaggerated a square millitary shoulder to an extreme it would have been better. Like The Big Suit  But ultimately, it was a streetwear challenge and not avant garde.

I say this with the foreknowledge that it is hypocritical and me pointing out the mote in someone’s else’s eye, but if you’re going to rag on everyone around you, can you do it without a big cross tattoo intentionally exposed by your unbuttoned shirt?

I hated Natalia’s jacket. It looked like the model was wearing a bathrobe 5 sizes too big. Laurence did have some issue with the fit of the crotch, but when she pulled them down a little they looked much better and her jacket was beautiful. I knew Brik would be going home since he didn’t provide as much drama as the other two, even though his outfit was way better constructed than both of theirs.

And this is now the second week in a row where when Erin was in the bottom, and the judges were discussing the bottom looks Heidi said “Well we do say one day you’re in and the next you’re out…” She used the exact same phrase regarding Erin both weeks! Which obviously shows how bullshit the judges decisions are, since you will not immediately go from winning a few episodes to being aufed even if you do create the worst look.

Seriously. And then Heidi looking all surprised at how the shorts took all day – I felt Erin’s pain. I worked a maybe 3"-5" canvas in bargello and it took me most of a day and then half that night. As soon as she started with those I knew it was going to take her forever. She should have been aufed for such bad decision making and for the hideous garment.

Either Zac or Nina did circle back and say they really liked the “Michael Jackson red” of her jacket but they didn’t say it during their main critiquing comments, rather said it like an afterthought just before they moved on to the next person. I barely caught it but was glad because even when she was working on it, I thought of MJ’s “Thriller” jacket, which is red with some quilting effects though placed differently.

You may be right that Laurence didn’t see it herself. Sometimes an influence can be totally subconscious. But I’d be very surprised if she’s never seen the MJ jacket at all!

I know this is about last week’s show, but i’m glad someone else said this. My wife and i were saying exactly the same thing to each other when the contestants were bitching about Jenny for “stealing” Erin’s technique.

I was sorry to see Tasha go last week, because i really liked her, but she was struggling to keep up from the beginning. I did think it was a shame, though, that she got aufed right before the streetwear challenge. I would have liked to see what she could do when the assignment was right up her alley.

This week, i would have been fine with either Laurence or Nathalia getting the win. The judges seem very inconsistent with things like baggy crotches. They will absolutely tear them apart on some designs, and completely forgive them on others. I think that, over all, Laurence’s look was good enough to win, but that crotch did look like it had a big codpiece sitting under there.

Generally, I agree, but to do the same technique that got praise just the week before? After this week with the embroidery plus Jenny’s machine quilting, now I see that they just happen to have similar aesthetics.

I think something’s wrong with me. I actually liked Brik’s optic pants. I think they would have been cute with a solid black top.

I agree! I though they were cute and similar to Rick’s b&w swimming ensemble in the graphic punch. They weren’t streetwear but would have looked good with a simple top. As soon as he unfurled that other fabric though – oof.

I liked the optic pants as well. It’s not something I usually like, and I’d never wear them, but I thought they were cute.

This week, I cannot believe anybody would like the leather and blue plaid skirt. It’s fugly.

I like Roberi but I didn’t get the love for the 90s grunge look either. I liked the blue team overall for Rick’s and Laurence’s coats, and her trousers.

I don’t agree with the Tim Gunn save. Just say it’s because he was thrown under the bus, don’t say it’s because he has more to say and we want to hear it. He’s been in the bottom and his work is not good.

But the drama began when he didn’t fight for the initial plaid he wanted. So what if Erin also wanted to use it – you both could and it would pull the looks together. “Sigh, I just have to make it work” – setting himself up as a martyr.

I really hope Dex and Erin aren’t as obnoxious as the editing made them out to be!!
