Project Runway starts tonight. Anyone watching?

It’s always hard to tell, on these shows, how “editorial” the editing process is, and how much it distorts the reality of the relationships and personalities.

It certainly did make me feel a bit sorry for Cornelius, something i didn’t really think was possible. I do agree with the judges that he should have stood up for himself more. In the sketching and buying stages, he whined a lot to the camera, but that’s not enough; you’ve got to stand there in front of your team-mates and say, “Sorry guys, but there’s too much goddamn red in this collection, and we need to break it up a bit,” and “Sorry, but i’m using this fabric. If you want to use it too, then go ahead.”

When they decided to shift his skirt to go with Erin’s coat, he also should have said to her, “Well, looks like you need to help me out making a new bottom half to go with my jacket.” At the very least, get her help with some of the stitching or finishing or something.

To be honest, though, however much it might have been exaggerated by the editing, it was clear from the get-go, and based on previous episodes, that Erin and Dexter are friendly enough that anyone working in a team with them would be at risk of being a third wheel. That risk was probably elevated for Cornelius because of his own tendency to badmouth people in previous episodes.

Tim’s save was clearly his own little “fuck you” to the two “mean girls” that he mentioned in his discussion with the judges. It certainly wasn’t warranted based on demonstrated design talent, but then again, the only criterion for the save is that Tim disagrees with the judges’ decision.

My wife really liked Roberi’s look, including his skirt. I liked it more as i got used to it, but i preferred Rick’s look.

Gratuitous observation from a straight guy who watches PR: Nathalia is smoking hot, but if i had to spend more than ten minutes in the same room, her voice would probably have me launching myself out the window.

Her voice plus the seal laugh from Jenny almost has me watching PR on mute.

Lord, yes. Why must so many people be totally oblivious to their grating voices?

I didn’t Roberi’s skirt, and while Laurence’s outfit didn’t break wild new ground, it was lovely and effortlessly chic.

So glad Rik won! He and his mom were sweet and I felt relieved he can pay her some money back. Mah Jing’s was more fashion-forward but seemed to overwhelm her. The dynamic there was weird – he seemed like he was trying to please her but she was distant.

I am relieved Jenny is gone. She made an outfit she would wear – those pants were sad. The sweater with a nicer pair of trousers would have been nice.

Jenny’s outfit - holy shit! That thing was an abomination. I thought, though, that there was a chance that Nathalia might go home for the combination of bad design and uncompleted work.

Rik’s was great, and he totally deserved the win. When i first saw Roberi’s, it seemed to me that the two prints didn’t go together, but seeing it walk down the runway changed my mind. I get what you’re saying about Mah-Jing’s outfit overwhelming her, but i thought it suited her perfectly.

I thought the judges got it exactly right with top three, bottom three, winner, and loser this week.

Mah Jong and his mom–there’s some unresolved stuff there. You nailed the dynamic perfectly.

Jenny is still trying to grow up, hence the spoiled brat attitude toward her mom. The other relationships were a joy to watch.

I am surprised no one has commented on the last episode. 2 eliminations on one show and both of them deserved to go. I just did not see the love for the outfit Erin came up will I thought it would send her home.

I thought Erin was in the bottom three as well but I never thought they’d send her home. I picked her for top three at the 2nd week, her and Laurence but they never seem excited about Laurence. I like Erin’s aesthetic but these last couple weeks have been hard to justify. That dress for her mother was awful. I see what she was trying to do with the lace on each side but the mullet hem was just horrible, the blue fabric was gauche, the coat made no sense and the styling was lackluster. She was lucky that there were worse garments. If they needed to do a double elimination, that was the week to get rid of Jenni AND Nathalie.

I’m thinking they just assume Laurence will be final three and just concentrate on the others.

I did not understand the love for Erin’s outfit yesterday. Power outfit? Nah. The metallic making it interesting? Hell nah.

I really did not guess Cornelius would win (even with the telegraphed “I’m the only one who hasn’t won”). I thought they would say it was too junior, being made out of gray sweatshirt material with bright accents. Power? It seemed too fun to be powerful.

What was Dexter thinking? Even Laurence has switched to other things since the judges pointed out her repeated aesthetic in the leather shoulders.

Rik? Huh??

Thus was the first time I can remember that not one single designer produced a garment that met the criteria if the challenge. Do these folks purposely avoid watching previous seasons? Contestants have been asked to produce editorial garments and garments inspired by NYC before and at least a few of the contestants have understood the criteria.

I feel bad for the folks at Marie Claire, having to try to make that tween dress into an editorial spread.

Someone posted on previously.tv that Erin is essentially copying a designer, and provided links. Can’t remember the name of the designer, but he did a bright yellow/mauve dress/jacket combo that is exactly what Erin did in a challenge…

Delpozo according to TLo. Def some similarities.

I didn’t see who won last night, but I surprised myself by thinking it should be Erin. I liked Rik’s dress but it was a conventional shape and not exactly avant garde. He did a great job using the materials though. I thought hers was a cool idea and actually did look like a piece a pop art. I can even forgive her using yellow AGAIN and not finishing the back of the “dress”.

I thought Cornelius and Mah Jing would both go home. Cornelius has the nerve to critize others and that’s what he came up with? And if Mah Jing had just gone huge with his idea, it would have been a winner. It just looked like a meh denim dress with small versions of a good idea stitched to it.

I was disappointed in Laurence. Not that it wasn’t neat looking and well made, but in the beginning she seemed excited that they could “do anything they wanted”! And she ended up doing another restrained leather piece.

What a disppointment the final collections are so far. Laurence – I had such high hopes for when she was on her own with $9000, and this is what she makes? Leather is her thing and there is hardly any? SOOOOO boring.

Roberi too I thought was talented, but conventional silhouettes only go so far even with interesting textiles.

Rik, ugh. And I like him a lot.

I really hate the clothes Erin makes. Oversized to the extreme or some frilly pajama outfit. the dress with the avatars of her friends was so much like the jump suit with ruffly sleeves. just no.

Jumpsuits and dropped crotches should be an automatic auf.

Agreed but it’ll never happen. Heidi has said many times how much she loves drop crotch pants. :smack:

Meh. I preferred Laurence’s collection.

I am so over Erin after someone pointed me toward Spanish designer Jesus del Pozo’s Spring and Fall 2016 ready to wear collections. Every one of Erin’s off-the-wall ideas are shown - the boxy silhouettes, the sprays of embellishment, even the bright bright yellow. In the Fall collection, there is a mauve and bright yellow coat that is virtually identical to the one Erin made. Del Pozo isn’t an obscure designer, the judges should have been aware of his designs and called Erin out as a plagiarist. Instead, they gave her the win. So so disappointed.
