Provide the Proverb (game)

Let’s see if this one’s any good.

We start with a proverb, in which part of it is left blank. Next poster must

  1. complete the proverb in any (hopefully somewhat amusing or ironic) manner, as long as it is not the original

  2. provide a new partially completed proverb, that uses one noun/adverb/adjective from the previous one (or a related term)
    For example:

Poster A) Dogs that bark at a distance ____________

Poster B) … are your neighbors’

If you lie down with dogs, ____________

So here goes…
“You can lead a horse to water, ______________”

…but you can’t make him think.
Two wrongs don’t make a right, ________________________

…But you can’t make him think.

“Sauce for the goose ____________”

…But three rights make a left"

“It’s a wise man that knows_________”

…that sauce for the goose…makes it tastier"

"A bird in hand…

A bird in hand…is better than a cow in brain
“An army of sheep led by a lion would _________________”

eventually get eaten, as lions get hungry.

Every cloud ____________________

Every cloud eventually rains on your parade.

“A penny saved is ___________”.

…probably worth more as scrap copper."

“He who dies with the most toys…”

“…will probably be Michael Jackson.”

“He who dies with the most toys… was probably a Star Wars fan.”

"He who hesitates …

“…gets beat out by someone with an incomplete post”

“Tis better to have loved and lost…”

He who dies with the most toys…needs a better tax attorney

“Smooth seas do not make __________”

“He who hesitates … is trying to post on SDMB.”

Spare the rod, ______

OK, now we have three proverbs to finish. I’ll take one:

“Smooth seas do not make…Jack a dull boy.”

Spare the rod, spoil the cone

We still have to finish “Tis better to have loved and lost…”

…than to wake up next to a Dalmatian."

Look before you…

“Look before you… pull out onto a busy road.”

Too many cooks…

Too many cooks … not enough waiters.

Marry in black ___________________________

(Note: this is a lesser known proverb. The original is “marry in black and you’ll wish yourself back.”)

Marry in black… steel-toed boots.

Marry in haste ____________
