Psych - Hello Lassieeeee.....

2 hits in a row -

And this is my partner - Felatio del Toro…
Still laughning…

This door is REALLY solid!

I think it’s oak!

Hilarious. I wonder - were those elderly twins the same twins from The Shining?

William Shatner seemed kind of pointless in this though.

When Shatner hadn’t shown up by the middle of the episode, I knew he was just going to come along at the end as part of the Shawn-really-truly-doesn’t-want-to-propose plot line. But the sandwich business was funny.

As was the rest of the episode, and I usually don’t like stories that focus on Lassie.

I think shawn really truly does want to propose but is afraid to say so in front of Gus.

I agree. I mean, it’s Shawn Spencer. When has he ever done anything that he TRULY didn’t want to do? If he didn’t want to propose, he’d KNOW that he doesn’t want to propose, and he wouldn’t.

But, when he first finds out he was wrong? Sure, there’s relief on his face after a few seconds… But right before that? He seems shocked. Sad. It really reminds me of the part in the first Ying Yang episode, where Jules asks Shawn out on a date when he’s with Abigail, and he pretends that he’s upset about the popcorn.

This one was pretty great. And I actually saw the pineapple for the first time in a while - on the ham that was in the welcome basket.

I also recognized Lou Gossett Jr’s voice, then when I saw him I thought it wasn’t him. Then I realized it was him.

Also nice to see Sarah Rue from Bing Bang Theory.

I’ve never understood the whole thing with Sean introducing Gus with another name. I’ve always figured they were puns or apposite references to famous people. (I don’t really follow pop culture).

Is this one just Sean calling Gus a fellator? Or something to do with Guillerno del Toro?

It is a Guillermo del Toro reference. Gus has almost never been referred to by his actual name and that was by Lassiter (Lassie), not Shawn. My favorites have included "this is my partner Imhotep, “meaning he cometh in peace” (of which the meaning is actually true), and the one where he introduced him as “MC Clap Your Hands” and Gus actually clapped his hands.

List of ghost/demon movies referenced:
Obviously The Shining, Ghostbusters, and Rosemary’s Baby.
Lassie staring at a snowy screen was Poltergeist.
The chairs stacked on the table – Paranormal Activity
Lassie waking up from one dream to find an apparition next to him – (arguably) Drag Me To Hell
The mirror sequence – Mirrors, or Stir of Echoes.
And, though it’s not a ghost movie, the caretaker in The Bad Seed was named Lloyd.

Anybody want to add any more?

Psycho - (shower scene)

What were the riffing on when the girl falls off the roof and they zoom in on her face? I recognize it, but don’t remember from where.

I think that was from Vertigo.

The camera work reminded me of A Kiss Before Dying, when Matt Dillon pushes Sean Young off the roof.

Benicio del Toro, actually.

So… can someone explain to me, then, why exactly the OP was in hysterics over the faux nom?

Because it’s funny to say “Fellatio” on a prime time TV show.

The timing, the delivery - the reaction on Gus’s and the person’s face that saw it - that Shawn said it in a perfectly non-plussed way.

Its comedy - and actually - it was the entirety of the episode that had (and has) me still laughing - that was just the line that stood out as one we have discussed before in these threads - the alternate names of Guster.

The ‘faux nom’ is a staple of the show -

OK. I found it funny, also, for these reasons. But not that funny, so I thought maybe I was missing something (especially since del Toro appears to be a real person).
