Psych returns!

That may be, but you’ve been watching him for a few months, I’ve been watching him for the last 36 hours or so…literally. I’m sure I’ll get used to him over time. Also, if you noticed, he was introduced in a Yin episode. There was a picture of him (new Shawn) and Ally Sheedy together which is why Lassie suggested it was Photoshopped…since it was a different Shawn. Well, that’s not really why, but it made the joke work on two levels.

Shawn: You’ve seen The Mentalist, right?
Cop: Yes…
Shawn: It’s like that.
Gus: Except that guy’s a fake.
Shawn: Right…if I were a fake psychic it’s be eerily similar.
Gus: Exactly the same.
Shawn: A virtual carbon copy.

I had to try and explain the difference to a co-worker once -

The Mentalist was a TV/Famous psychic who now uses his powers of observation to fight crime -

Psych is a pretend psychic who uses his powers of observation to fight crime.

They never did quite get the difference, but the shows are markedly different other than where they are the same.

Here ya go.

I couldn’t accept new Young Shawn until they had the Christmas episode with him and regular Shawn interacting and they hung a lampshade on the change in actors. Then I was sold.

Anyone know what this last episode (Last Night Gus) was parodying? The Hangover? The camera angles and some of the music (and that ice cream cone speech) made me think they were paying tribute to something more.

I didn’t recognize it as anything, but it was one of the best ones I’ve seen. I might even go so far as to call it my favorite.
I’m really glad with the way the Shawn/Juliet/Lassie thing is working out. At the end of last season Shawn and Lassie were just starting to get along until he found out about him and Juliet. I really didn’t want to see him at Shawn’s throat again. I’m glad he’s ‘cool’ with it.

Also, I think that was probably the most Woody has been in a single episode.

ETA, I was surprised Gus’ super sniffer didn’t notice the poison in the drink.
ETA2, I’m 99% sure you can’t drink Salvia…also, at least when you smoke it, it only lasts about 10 minutes and sure as hell doesn’t erase your memory.
ETA3 “The internet” says it was a salute to The Hangover.

That was a fantastic episode, laugh out loud funny! I’m glad they utilised Kurt Fuller’s Forensics character, as he has been excellently quirky in all his appearances.

There’s also more than a little bit of “Dude Where’s My Car” in this week’s episode also, IMO.

Had to DVR this past episode, so I’m coming in late, but I absolutely loved it. It was chock full of awesome little moments. Well-written, well-acted, well-directed - the show at its peak.

I won’t say it’s my favorite episode, but in the top 5.

I want to see the outtakes from that show - and not just 3 of them - I can almost bet my salary that there are hours worth of outtakes - similar to the karate episode last season - that will be painful to watch -

You can find a lot of that on youtube. It’s funny to watch Lassie bust out laughing at Shawn instead of being pissed off at him.

Is anyone else about to freak out right now?

C’mon, son!

Another difference is that Psych premiered in 2006 and The Mentalist in 2008. Wasn’t there once a joke about a major network ripping off a basic cable show?

Coupla things from this week’s Psych (11/2).
This was my first sighting of the pineapple. It was in one of the comic strips.
At the very end, when Shawn found Reginald loading his money into the Subaru I noticed two things 1)Reginald’s fly was down (can’t believe the script supervisor or wardrobe or makeup or someone on the set didn’t catch that one…maybe they left it in as a joke) and 2) you could only see half of the Subaru license plate as part of it was blocked by his leg. The half you could see said 2CON. I have to assume that was on purpose based on the fact that it was the same way they set up all the Batman references during the big action scene.

Also IMDB for this episode isn’t fully filled out yet, but do we know the new cop from somewhere? He reminds me of the co-pilot from Pan Am who was also on the last season of Scrubs, but I know it’s not him. I just can’t place it.
And was that a new Young Gus?

Did you watch the “Psych-Out” during the credits? If not, check it out. It’s right at the start of the credits. The new cop was Joey McIntyre from The New Kids on the Block.

As for Young Gus, it’s the same kid. Young Shawn is new as the the past couple seasons though.

I saw that, I saw them doing the NKOTB thing, I didn’t know that’s who it was.

I know Shawn is different, but Gus seemed different as well. Maybe I didn’t recognize him in his tap man costume.

Loved this latest episode. The comic-style opening credits were great. I LOL’d when Shawn said to Juliet, “I know you know I’m not telling the truth. I know you know.”

And Gus as Tap-Man was hilarious. “I thought you said we were supposed to scare them, Shawn!” “We were, but then you started dancing on your toes!”

This season has been great so far.

It was also my first sighting in a while of the pineapple, but the one I saw was on the table when Sean and Jules were having a fancy dinner together.

I thought it was a great episode, but using “Carlos Jacott” made me think something was up. I guess it was an inside joke, b/c he’s been in Psych before, but regardless I payed attention when I shouldn’t have. Or something.
