Psych finally returned on USA with the Season 7 premiere last week, following up on last season’s cliffhanger ending. This is pretty much my favorite show, and certainly the only show that consistently makes me laugh out loud, so I am psyched (ha!) that it is finally back.
That said, the opener was a little disappointing. There were a couple of great moments (The Cranberry, shared fake beard) but overall it was not one of their best outings. Trying to be a little too serious. Plus the editing seemed jumpy to me.
But to be honest, I don’t really care. I’m just glad it’s back and I suspect they’ll get back into stride shortly now that the cliffhanger is resolved.
Glad it is back too. I love the one liners. I think the seriousness was just for the subject matter of that episode - which was probably just over the top because it was the opener.
I too was very excited for the show’s return. The episode was the worst that the show has ever done. Very little was remotely humorous, and it all felt forced and either formulaic or way too simpleminded for this show. I hope that it returns to form really quickly.
Dissappointed that this isn’t about the Hank Azaria/Oliver Platt HBO show. The show that got cancelled with single question left unanswered. That only about 3 of us watched. 3 of us in the whole wide world.
I thought the season opener was awesome! And they way I’ve been anticipating it, by rights I should have hated it from overly built-up expectations. Loved the beard!
Meanwhile, I liked this episode of Psych. I remember Max Gail from Barney Miller and Whiz Kids. It did feel a little bit like they tried too hard, but their hands were tied to conclude an episode which I suspect they hadn’t thought too much about when they wrote the original cliffhanger.
And Shawn’s Mom returns this week, so it will be good to see Cybill Shepherd again.
I thought there were some great lines and gags. And the jiggly legs with the nachos was just hilarious especially after the body bags interaction just beforehand. But I do agree that the tone of the episode was somehow off- I actually think that Chief Vick’s lines were the most representative of the off tone of the show being off. But watching the Comicon panel, etc. it looks like the actors are really excited for this season so I think that means good things.
Huh. I didn’t even know this show was still running.
I watched, I think, the first three seasons. Is it better now? Worse? About the same?
To clarify: Back then I thought the show was fine, definitely usually worth watching for entertainment, though nothing you’d expect to stay with you after you finished watching.
Usually they try to hide the fact that it’s Canada*, with varying degrees of success, but last season they had one episode where it was so obvious that’s where they really were they clearly just thought “Fuck it, let’s make it part of the joke.”
*A place called White Rock, where Vancouver meets Washington.
Am I too young to have Arden Myrin give me sponge baths? (checking Corbin Bernsen on IMDB) Nope, I’m three months older. I just look younger, which may work against me.
The show is still awesome. I only stopped watching when I realized I’d seen every episode 6 times. This new one was still just as good as they have always been.
Guanolad, was that the Dual Spires episode? Loved it.
