Ok, I’m in. Unless my car won’t start. Everyone cross your fingers.
I have a conflict tonight unfortunately.
JUST KIDDING! I’ll be there early to start drinking my courage.
Actually, I have a request. Could you guys sit in the back, to let me know how I’m projecting, etc.? You know, thumbs up for louder, etc.? If you manage to read this post in time . . .
But, who will heckle you, if we sit in the back!?
See ya tonight.
I’m sorry, I can’t hear you in the back. Could you speak up a little?
Sorry for guppying-out, people. My little work project took way too long. I’m still not quite done.
I hope all went great, lissener.
I eagerly await the feedback. . . .
lissener you did very well. You need to keep the mic in mind, sometimes you’d move away from it while speaking.
At first, I thought you needed to be a little more assertive with the crowd, but you got a pretty good handle on them after a few minutes. “Never let 'um see you sweat.” Sorry, I don’t remember who said it, but good advice, nonetheless.
Only one thing. The explaination of the bird sheet in the middle of the other set was a bit distracting.
Since I’m not there every week, could I make up a list of medical/human body type questions for a night I’m not there? Just for some diversity. Let me know.
I thought you did really well. I think the only thing I didn’t mention to you last night was that you spent too much time trying to anticipate problems out loud than just reacting to them.
For example, when John hosted, I never heard the whole “talk to me again if there’s a one point difference” until the Highlander question, and he only mentioned that because he remembered that he was wrong. When it comes to controversial questions, I’d just trust your research (and the rule that says you’re right) and let people bicker. You don’t need to bring up issues until they come up by themselves.
I’m pretty sure most of that was nerves, though, so I assume it’ll get better over time.
Oh, and I forgot to mention last night that people seemed to really like the “who wrote this song” round.
I look forward to seeing your next outing and continuing to dominate the proceedings.
Okay, that’s all well and good.
But how’d you guys do against his questions?
BTW, well done to lissener for what seems like a successful first outing. Here’s on ya.
The bribe worked. We won by one point.
Well, it was either the bribe or his psychic twin, Cervaise. Either way, money!
Followed by careful distancing of ourselves from the host so as not to arouse suspicions of collusion.
I’ve already provided my feedback, but just to reiterate:
[ul][li]rather than an even bell-curving of difficulty (two hard, two easy, six middle), the bell should be skewed to retain overall team interest and spread the scores more evenly (say, two hard, four easy, four middle)[]broader categories — Monty Python was aced by experts and zeroed by others; consider instead “British comedy,” which might encompass Python, The Office, Ali G, Coupling, Shaun of the Dead, etc.[]less nitpicky requirements, unless that’s the point: the bird list, for example, could have had “______ heron” and “_____ hummingbird” so it’s clear what’s being asked[*]more variety in categories: songs, books, movies, and Python are pretty closely related — consider a picture round that asks teams to identify member of GWB’s cabinet, for example[/ul][/li]For a first crack, I thought it went pretty well, and I’m looking forward to the next one with refinements.
Yes! Please do so! Pad it a little; 12-15 questions, so I can pick and choose a little. K?
All helpful, and noted. All good input that I will try to implement. I’m saving your suggestions in my Trivia folder. Thanks guys!
De nada. By the way, I think it’s only fair to mention that were I in your shoes, I would almost certainly have made the same misjudgments as covered in my first two bullet points, possibly the second two as well, and no doubt several others besides. If I ever need to fill in for you, I’ll be learning from your experience.
Who’s on for tomorrow? It’s John’s last night, although of course I plan to extend to him an open invitation to guest-host in my place any damn time he pleases.
I might be available tomorrow night, but I know I’m available tonight. Is anyone else interested? Maybe even TWO nights in a row – wouldn’t that be amazing?
I’m out both nights this week, sadly. We’re flying to WI on Wednesday, so we’ll be busy packing both nights.
I’m pretty sure we’ll be showing tomorrow.
My surgery is on Wednesday, so I’ll be too too jived up to go on Tuesday night. It’s just a simple surgery (if there be such a beast), so I shouldn’t take too long to recover, but we’ll see how next Tuesday looks - if everything went fine, and my bowels allow it, I’ll go.
They also rescheduled my Mom’s follow up appointment for tomorrow - so you’d think it couldn’t be too serious, eh? I guess I’ll find out for sure tomorrow.
So, either next week or the week after. I look forward to seeing those I’ve already met before, and to meeting those I haven’t yet.
