While I realize “editing my friend’s MPH thesis” is only an entry or two above “washing my cat” on the list of lame excuses, that’s still how I have to spend my evening. (The thesis, not the cat.) But I’ll try to finish early and visit. I hate to miss 'bang!?'s turn under the spotlight.
I’m planning to be there (since it’ll be my last chance for a month), but dagnabbit, I’m running Payroll tonight so I may end up getting stuck here. If I get out of here on time, I’ll definitely be in attendance.
I’m over the worst of my intestinal adventures, but I’m not yet ready to be away from my own comfy bathroom for too long a stretch. Too bad; I miss playing instead of hosting.
Here’s wishing a broken leg to Interrobang!?, and my heartiest encouragement to the rest of you: I’ve seen the questions, and you’ll have to earn this pot.
Well, damn, it’s just about over and I guess I missed it again.
How did the team do? How did I’bang!? do?
I just got home. We landed dead center in the field. There were just three of us, however. (Not a good excuse, but the best I could come up with)
BTW, Hubby would have only gained us three points, although the color sheet on the airlines might have helped. He knew Aeroflot and S African. He did get King County Airport’s call letters right.

That was a lot of fun. I’d do it again in a heartbeat, but I can’t see doing it every week – way too time-consuming to come up with 80 questions.
-
I realized, three hours before quiz, that I’d written a very difficult set of questions. And I hadn’t meant to. It’s harder than you think to write a balanced quiz. Next time I’ll aim for a lot easier overall.

Did I mention the fun? There was a time in my life when I would’ve been terrified at the thought of sitting up there with a mic in front of me, but it went fine from my end. A few nerves, but they didn’t last.

Sorry about that airline round. Seriously.
No need to apologize. It’ll provide convenient cover when I present my “identify the Cantonese popstar by close-up pictures of their thumbs” round. “Hey, at least it isn’t as bad as the airline round!”
Yeah, but was it worse than the stamps?
Hey, at least it wasn’t as bad as the stamp round!
Oh, um, nevermind.
One team got 8 of the airlines correct, but I think the average was about 1.6. I spent about two hours working on that round, was mostly done, realized it was way too hard, looked at the clock, and decided it was either skip the round or do it the hard way. I think I made the right choice, but I’d bail much earlier in the future. (#1, the Air New Zealand logo, was my inspiration, and I meant to make that the hard question. Instead it became the benchmark, because good pictures of planes without big words on them were hard to find.)
The band round was harder than I thought for people, though my friend from work got 9 out of 10 – too bad she arrived too late to sign up.
In the movie round, no one correctly identified Demon Knight, even after figuring out Billy Zane.
Final scores ranged from 20 to 48; I think ideally those scores would both be 10 points higher.
Anyone who would like to see the Seattle round, I posted it to Seattlest.com in a wrapup post.
Yeah, I try to keep everyone’s score close; not too big a gap between the Usual Suspects at the top, and everyone else. Also I try to keep everyone’s score up to around 60. Very, very difficult to finesse. I’ll probably have it just about figured out the day I quit.
That one was killing me! While I knew a couple of the other answers by reputation, this was the only obscure-ish one that I’ve actually seen (heck, I haven’t even watched Titanic). But I just couldn’t shake the title loose from my grey matter.
I plan to be on deck tonight, knock on porcelain. Anyone gonna be there for my triumphant return?
Craziness is planned (planned craziness can be the worst kind!) at my house tonight, so I’ll have to skip trivia. Good luck to those that can attend.
It’s been a looooooong weekend, and I don’t think one relaxing day back at work is going to have me ready for trivia again by tonight. I’d like to go, but it really ain’t gonna happen.
I don’t think I’ll be there either, sorry.
Film fest has me tonight and the next two Tuesdays, sorry.
I’m busy preparing for my mother-in-law’s big birthday party, so I’m out this week. I’m out next week, too, got a meeting at church.
I’ll be doing this same quiz tomorrow at Ravenna Alehouse, if any of you wanna give it a try. Not a whole lot to recommend it: smaller pot, kind of a dive. But it’s a good quiz . . .
Last night was actually one of the better quizzes, from my perspective. Good balanced scores; nobody too high, nobody too low. One guy by himself, someone I’ve never seen before, came in at third place. He had a cellphone though, so he may have cheated . . . I’ll have to keep a closer eye on him next time. Friends from work came, and ended up with the halftime pitcher. I spilled Maker’s Mark on myself. A double.
Got some fun rounds for tonight.
There’s gonna be a guest host next week; an old host, pre-John, is going to host on the 13th.
