I just got it two days ago, got to Mr. Sandman pretty easily, and then played him like 30 times and went to bed. Beat him yesterday quite easily. For the first two rounds, at least, the pattern is surprisingly simple. Seems like in the third round he changes things up a bit, though.
Now, I’ve only played one title defense mode game and got knocked out by Glass Joe in the second round. I thought I was holding my own against him, but he’s got this delayed punch that I haven’t quite caught the tell for yet.
The sandman is still wailing on me. I’ve been trying to counter his punches but he is too darn quick. His overhand that he starts with are super quick but I can dodge them. The problem for me is his other punch is on a delay. I dodge as soon as he moves and my guy comes back just in time to get wailed on.
Either that, or note that in the first two rounds his sequence of punches is exactly the same. It resets to a new (and just as predictable) sequence after the first knockdown and second knockdown.
To get you started:
In the beginning of both rounds one and two, Mr. Sandman always goes quick punch, quick punch, delayed (“stand still!”) punch, quick punch, delayed punch, quick punch (a hook this time), quick punch, delayed punch. After you knock him down, the first punch he throws is a delayed left hook (“night night!”), and then I can’t remember exactly. After you dodge his punch, hit him with an uppercut and then four or five body blows (you can get four off countering his quick punch, and five off countering the delayed punch.)
Got him. It took a bunch of tries I memorized his patterns and got three stars really quick in the first round. After that is was just reflexes. I just beat Disco Kid in title defense mode and King Hippo is next.
Good job. Glass Joe in title defense mode is still kicking the everloving snot out of me. I played him like 15 or 20 times yesterday and came close, but no cigar.
I just beat him last night. The way I was able to do it was to go for a left body punch immediately when he starts to make the move to do his right hook. If he’s doing the normal right hook, you’ll hit him in the gut (and sometimes get a star). If he’s doing the delayed right hook, your punch misses, but then you still have time to dodge due to the delay. Then all you have to do is dodge his quick jabs and French dancing routines. I TKO’d him in Round 2 with this technique.
Thanks for the tip. I’ve notice GJ has a predictable pattern of punches (like Sandman), but my memory isn’t what it used to be these days so I lose the pattern at some point. I also noticed that when he goes for the quick hook, he keeps his head up, and when he goes for the delayed hook, he ducks his head down, but my reaction time doesn’t sync reliably with those visual cues. I’ll try your method later.
I’ve been playing solely with the motion control sans balance board. It really makes you sweat if you do it a lot (and I’ve beaten all of the boxers so far using those controls- I’m up to Title Defense Don Flamenco. The boxers are getting harder- my last two or three victories were by judges’ decision). You don’t really push your arm out as if you were punching- you push your arm downward (some might call it a jerking-off motion, but it is by no means as such compared to that infamous carrot-juice game from Rayman Raving Rabbids).
