want2befree, re Evelyn sleeping with Waldon – I felt bad for Holland Taylor. Let the character have some dignity. Having her sleep with Jon Lovitz was bad enough.

My favorite woman for Charlie was Herb’s sister, one of the few love interests on the show with some personality.

Herb’s sister was played by the same actress that plays Waldon’s ex. She’s also quite appealing to me.

Judy Greer is her name, I believe.

Isn’t that odd? It’s like Lorre has a stable or something. The woman who played Chelsea was three different characters on the show. Yet when it was time for Miss Pasternak to reappear, it was a different actress.

Don’t forget about Jenna Elfman; she had a 2 episode role as Frankie (the crazy widow w/ a kid Charlie fell for) back in season 1, then did a cameo as Dharma Montgomery in the season 9 première.

I also liked the one where Charlie’s friends came over for poker, and one of them was the actor who played Jon Cryer’s love interest’s dad in Pretty in Pink and he was playing himself. I wish they would have made some slight/stealth correlation, that would have been so cool.

Elvis Costello was another one of Charlie’s friends, IIRC.

Sean Penn was the fourth. IRRC, Alan tried to get him to do some Spicoli or something else he didn’t like.

I always rolled my eyes when Alan talked about wanting Charlie to be a protective, mentoring “big brother”, but you’re right.

One of the best examples of Charlie trying to do better by Jake is the ep where Jake is reluctant to go to a make-out party. When it sinks in to Charlie that Jake’s just not ready, he’s supportive and understanding, no teasing or putdowns.

I can also recall an episode in which Jake did something Charlie strongly advised against, and when a grown man came to the door intending (Charlie thought) to beat the crap out of the kid, Charlie told him to run, clearly intending to take the beating himself rather than let it happen to his nephew.

That was the one where Jake went out with Mad Dog Burnett’s (played by Michael Clarke Duncan RIP) daughter, Celeste, and kept her out too late.

God, I’m pathetic, I know way too much about that show.
