Where exactly in my post did I say that? Oh riiiiiight, I didn’t.
His behavior was obviously out of line and he should stop it immediately. My sympathy for his situation has to do with the challenges he faces in social settings as a result of having Asperger’s.
Having sympathy isn’t the same as making an excuse. You may want to work on your reading for comprehension skills. Or consult a dictionary.
He made a big impression as Curtis Lemay. People got to know him and his personality under that name. When I see his new name, my first thought is, “Oh, it’s really Curtis.” It’s not disrespectful. He established his identity and created a lasting impression under one name. It’s more disrespectful to the SDMB community that he then chose to change that name than it is for others to consider his original name to be his “real” one.
Since your entire political world-view is based on lies, misinformation and misunderstandings, maybe you should add a little Haldol to your corn flakes.
Yeah, it’s like this for me too. In my mind he’s really “Curtis under a pseudonym”, despite the fact that obviously Curtis was a pseudonym to begin with. If I ever ran into him in real life and he told me his actual name, I’d probably still think of him as Curtis. That’s just how names work.
In my mind he’s also a little pissant who thinks he knows and understands way more than he really does and is too arrogant to even begin realizing it. Y’know, a teenager. Fuck those guys.
I see it about like kids wearing Che Guevara tees. They have no historical knowledge besides a vague feeling that he was Against The Man, yet he’s their hero.
shrug I still have my old copies of Steal This Book and *Anarchist Cookbook *collecting dust around here somewhere…
He thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room and, in most rooms, he probably is. He has read a few books and built a worldview from them. He’s like most everybody on this board was when we were his age, arrogant little pissants. With luck, in a few years he’ll have read more and will realize what a putz he had been.
That is of course true, and goes a long way towards explaining why I dislike the guy so very much despite there being so very many manichean dimwits out there on the intertubes. I dimly suspect I was that guy once, and it pisses me right off.
Still, when I was that bookish, cocksure, arrogant ignorant teenager guy, I wasn’t that bad. I think. Well, at least I wasn’t so callous about human life. So there.
The last thing he needs is more reading. He needs to go outside and realize not everyone grew up exactly the same as he did and meet some actual people so he can stop being creepy and grow some empathy. Not going to get that from more Rand or any other reading.
And I still haven’t seen anything I would call “intelligence” from him, being well read and regurgitating things you’ve heard and having strong opinions you refuse to budge from doesn’t prove “intelligence” to me. Stubbornness and bookwormishness yes.
