Queer Eye 8/26 - George K

In defense of Jai:

  1. His teaching on body language was dead-on. The slutty girl did everything Jai said a horny girl would do. Only, they didn’t give Jai the props for calling it in advance, and the Greek godlet didn’t learn his lesson well and missed it.

  2. QE was almost going to have a ‘host,’ like other makeover shows. It’s a good call that they didn’t… now that would have been useless. Jai seems to be filling in the role that a host would play in pulling the straight guy over and asking how’s it going, what they want out of the make-better, etc… I’d like to see him help the straight guy more this way by helping him process all the changes the other guys are making and helping the straight guy appropriate everything.

  3. Few of the special events have left much for Jai to do. The dancing next week will allow this broadway performer to earn his keep.

  4. I thought that helping the back-up singer was right up Jai’s alley, and he pulled his weight on that episode.

  5. When Jai (or Blair) choose books or music for the straight guy, we never really got a chance to see the books or hear the music. In this case, what Jai’s contributing is not being highlighted (or, edited out). With the port authority cop, he got him tickets to the opera, we should at least have heard a clip.

  6. Jai is going out with the straight guy moreso than at first. But this is also true for Thom and Ted, who at first, did everything on their own. But now they’re all getting a turn at going out with the straight guy and involving him in the make-better.

  7. Jai is the least mean to the straight guy. You don’t want a stereotype of gay men being total bitches now, do you?

  8. I saw Jai in Rent. Hated the plotless play with good but pointless music, but I liked Jai’s performance.

=========

WRT Carson’s semen couch remark: The set-up was, “We got it [the couch] at Seiman’s [pronounced SEE-menz]. This is a Seiman’s couch.”

How could he, or any other gay man in the world, not respond to that?

His other, better remark was seeing the newly coiffed George: “You took away Xena and brought back a Baldwin.”

=========

WRT to ‘Greek’ humor: When they’re in the car and it’s pointed out that George is Greek. It seems like someone was about to make a Greek [sex] comment, but it was cut off by Ted who continued with the intro.

Peace.

Waiting for the episode with the laying the carpet joke.

Nitpick: moriah, it’s actuallySeaman’s Furniture. Maybe you get those ridiculous ads in Jersey: “See Seaman’s first! See, see, SEEEEE, see Seaman’s first!”

Sampiro, you not only look great but you’re apparently immortal! Cool!

I had the privilege of seeing Jai perform twice in ZANNA DON’T! He’s phenomenol. I agree they don’t quite know what to do with him in the show, though; since you don’t see the straight guy actually listening to the CDs or reading the books, you’re left with Jai being Mr. Manners. Which is fine but doesn’t show him to best advantage. Really looking forward to next week and seeing him dance.

The one I have to give the most props to, though, is Thom, Interior Decorating and So Much More Guy. While the others are fingering cashmere (shut up) at Ralph Lauren, or strolling through the Gourmet Garage choosing the freshest focaccia, or flipping through CDs at HMV, Thom is moving the furniture, putting away piles of junk, painting, wallpapering, planting trees, plastering holes, refinishing floors, hanging candle holders from everything, stripping varnish, etc. etc. I know he doubtless has a small crew off camera helping him, but damn does he work hard.

What, no comments on “frenching the bones”?

(actually the whole lamb storyline about made me sick)

I agree, a new haircut and sweater don’t mean squat if your house still looks (and smells) like a frat house. He has a solid eye for design and has rescued some truly horrible dumps.

Out of curiosity, who did Jai play in Rent? I’d assume Angel, but that could just be stereotypes speaking.

I agree 100% that if we actually saw/heard a little bit more of what he does, it’d probably seem more useful.

And he’s occaisionally extremely funny, whether intentional or not. I think it was the John the cop episode that had the immortal quote from Thom: “OK, this room is just stupid.”

Say, Otto, has anyone managed to answer your question about the theme song? It’ll be available soon… keep an eye on the band’s webpage ( http://www.widelifeonline.com/ ) for details.

Sooooooon? But I want it nooooow!

Seriously, one would think that if nothing else Bravo would step up with a merchandising/release deal to get the single out there, followed up by perhaps a CD of some of the other music used in the series.

Yes, we get the Seaman’s ads in NJ. Seaman’s is the proto-typical suburban warehouse furniture store in which your grandparents shopped for their plastic covered green and brown plaid couches.

Yes, Jai was Angel in Rent.

You mean the theme of QE isn’t already a re-mixed extended play dance version popular at all the gay clubs? Dude, someone’s missing a boat load of cash on this on.

Check out Straight Eye for the Queer Shows for excellent recaps of QE shows.

also at the above link there is an interview with vinny. he says he is very happy with how the show went and has thrown out most of the stuff the fabulous five put into storage.

I want Fab Five Bobbleheads.
