A rockabilly rager (Albert Lee on the guitar) keeps running through my mind.
Too Sweet (I like My Whiskey Neat) - Hozier
It’s been worming around for about a week now.
Mine is the Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm by Béla Bartók. I’ve played them on the piano since I was a teenager and am still obsessed with the fascinatin’ rhythms. Lately it’s been the last few weeks my inner DJ has been stuck on them.
i’ve always liked that song. first time i heard it was on “due south”.
After playing a tribute to John Freeman this weekend, I’ve had his songs running through my head all week. Yesterday and today it’s been “German Centaurs Bake Good Bread”.
Sunshine (1971, Jonathan Edwards)
“Dragostea din tei” by O-Zone otherwise known as the Numa Numa song from more than 20 years ago.
I watched/listened to this song before You Tube even existed. I think it was posted on something called ebaumsworld at the time. What a memory lol.
Now it has wormed into my ear again all these years later.
Chinatown by The Move
“What You Won’t Do for Love,” by Bobby Caldwell. I heard it late last night, before I went to bed, and it’s been stuck in my head since.
The episode we finished last night of Bodkin has someone karaoke singing Willie Nelson’s Always on My Mind. So that’s stuck around. Fortunately it’s Willie’s version.
(this episode also had some Elvis references and some covers of his songs. Apparently Elvis just moved to Ireland for the tax break for artists.)
This Wheel’s on Fire by the Band. It was playing on the radio as I was honing to pick up take out at the Mexican restaurant. As I fit here now sipping my margarita I hear Rick Danko warbling,”If your memory serves you well…”’
Lay Down (Candles in the Rain), by the Edwin Hawkin Singers and Melanie ‧ 1970
Pet Shop Boys …West End Girls…for the last week.
Still have a bunch of John Freeman songs in my head. Recently it’s been songs from The Psychos!, a concept band where all the songs are appropriately from the perspective of a murdering crazy person.
Spoilered because even the title is probably NSFW.
And the content is pretty offensive
When the Saints Go Marchin’ In
I have no idea how that popped into my head. It was driving me nuts all weekend. Finally it disappeared, but if I think about it too much it will be back.
I really hate when this happens.
It’s usually some bizarre snippet from god knows where like Go Tell Aunt Rhody.
Heheh, when I can’t place where it slipped into my head it’s usually because I heard a snippet of the song on TV (or something that sounded like it) when I was walking through the living room.
Today, I had something that wasn’t penned by John Freeman stick into my head. Yep, it’s a mashup.
