I really don’t like messing with laundry, so I save myself a little time on socks. I wear cowboy boots any time I’m not wearing shorts, so my socks never show. As a result, the vast majority of my socks are identical white sweatsocks. When enough of them start to develop holes, I throw them all out and go buy several dozen new pair of identical socks. When I do laundry, there’s no sorting, no matching. Just stuff 'em all in a drawer.
So what are your quirky household habits?
Sometimes I use old white socks for dusting (particularly in thin spots like between the shelf and the stereo).
My husband uses old rugs to protect his car fenders when he’s working on it.
Hairspray makes a good spider killing weapon.
I do the same with all of my socks. I have several identical pair of each of the following: white calf length socks, white ankle length socks, black dress socks. Pairing socks is a breeze and I’m covered for any situation - if wearing shorts grab the short white socks, if wearing jeans grab longer white socks, if wearing dress shoes grab the dark socks. This system has saved me from the previously all too common mid-day realization that my socks don’t match.
I’m not a morning person. Picking out my socks by feel means I can keep my eyes shut a few more seconds…
We always used my dad’s old white socks for dusting when I was a kid. Honestly, they make the best dust rags.
I prefer Windex to raid for killing ants…works just as well and smells a lot better.
Every pillow has a cloth zippered “pillow cover” on it under the regular pillow case.
