Radio stations in New Orleans

I will be in New Orleans on November 20 of this year (leaving for a cruise the next day). I would like to know how to find out if the Ohio State vs. Michigan game will be on a local radio station (obviously live). I am forced by my better half to go on some haunted tour during game time (it will make the daughter happy as well). I want to listen to the game on a portable radio. Anyone have any thoughts, info, or links? Thanks in advance, and GO BUCKS!

It is highly unlikely that you will be able to catch a broadcast of the Ohio State/Michigan game in NO. The local news/sports stations will more than likely be broadcasting games of regional teams that are of local interest (higher ratings). There is a slight chance that ABCor ESPN radio will carry the game nationally, and maybe a local radio station will carry it, but only if there is no other local games being played.

Being a rabid SA Spurs and UT Longhorn fan I have been in similar situations. These are my strategies:

  1. Tape/Tivo the game and watch it when you get back.
  2. Keep up by checking on the internet either by going to sportsline.com or
subscribe to a webcasting service. I know you said that you would wanted to
listen to it on radio, but this is an option.
  3. Before you leave, set up the VCR/Tivo to record the game. Then set up with
one of your good friends or family members to give you periodic reports on the
game. You can arrange for them to call you after each score and give you a
quick description of the drive, or have them call you at the end of each quarter
with a report. If it comes down to the last few minutes and the game is on
the line, they can even call you on the phone and call the game for you!
Believe it or not, I had my Dad call the last 3 minutes of a Spur’s playoff game
when I was out of state! It was actually fun.

On a personal note, New Orleans is one of the coolest, most fun, most interesting cities in the US. Spend time with your family and have a blast. Don’t worry about missing the game- it will go on without you!

You might be in luck. Here is the schedule for that weekend. That is rivavlry weekend. However, they do try to space out the starting time of the various games. It will depend on what time Florida vs Florida State and Auburn vs Alabama start.

Ohio State and Michigan are both huge schools with national alumni. This game is usually shown on tv throughout the United States.

Also, on a regrettable note, SBC communications has bought the naming rights to the game. So, big business may “help” in getting the game additional radio exposure.

It is the SBC Michigan-Ohio State Classic now, at least for 2 years.

You’d be better off with a portable TV. According to the link provided by dalej42, the SBC Michigan-Ohio State Classic will be aired by ABC - Channel 26 in New Orleans. While there are portable radios that can pick up TV stations, I don’t think they can get UHF.
