HAAAAAAAAR! I set sail from the irkplace and boarded me cave a little bit ago. After plunderin’ the scurvy dogs at Krispy Kreme of course. I be makin’ a dindin of
curried pork and sweet N.O.T.. A hearty dish for a pirate to tuck into after a hard day of plunderin’.
Holy Crapasaurus! Our boat is sold! Second guy who came to look at it wrote a check for the asking price. Broker says when the check clears, he’ll be in touch and we’ll do the paperwork. No negotiating, no nothing… Maybe we didn’t ask enough?? No confetti yet, tho - as **FCD **said “I’ll believe it when the check clears.”
Tonight, I’m making a mega-pot of sketty sauce and building a lasagna for tomorrow. Yay for cool enough weather to turn the oven on! I made a grocery run and Food Lion had cake mix and frosting on sale, so I got a devil’s food cake, a yellow butter cake, and a spice cake mix, plus chocolate buttercream, vanilla buttercream, and cream cheese frosting. Much baking will ensue.
Oh, and **FCD **has found our “next” boat. Too bad it’s in Wisconsin… and costs 3 times what we’ve sold this one for… and is essentially an empty shell with an engine, so we’d have to build the entire interior. Twenty years ago, it would have been a fun project. Today, I don’t think so…
Just got another email from our broker. The buyer has rented a slip - guess he’s really serious… I had to download a coast guard form and fill it out so we can fax it off tomorrow. It’s looking like this weekend, we’ll be getting a big-ass check. I’m seeing new countertops in my very near future! Yay!
Sketty sauce is simmering. It smells yummerrific in here! Once it’s done, I need to tidy the kitchen. Busy busy busy!
Many many thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday, all! Funny though I don’t feel 60 … well, at least right now I don’t feel it, I may well feel it later on. LOL Yesterday was also one of the days that I love Facebook, as I heard from many high school friends and also some college era ones. And I found a couple of old friends as well, not that they had been missing but we had definitely not been in touch for many years.
Lobster tail was indeed eaten for dinner last night, but it was gone way too soon. I may have to check into the possibility of getting a whole lobster next year. We also had asparagus, one of my favorite veggies; I don’t get to have that very much because it is usually expensive. We also had a little birthday cake - a one-layer kind, and I only ate a small piece. I am considering making a sugar-free apple crisp this weekend, though!
When I moved to Albuquerque last year, one of the things I missed about the DC area was the availability of many different cultural cuisines. One of my favorites is Indian, and I would frequently go to the Indian grocery stores and even some of the regular grocery stores carried things like tandoori paste, and other things like spices that you usually only find in the Indian grocery stores. I couldn’t find anything like that here in Albuquerque! And after a year of searching high and low, I broke down and ordered some of what I wanted from amazon.com (which means I paid shipping rates … :(). It wasn’t too bad, money-wise, because I had other things that I ordered from there and needed (like a tube cake pan and a jell-o mold). Of course, as soon as I got those orders, lo and behold, an Indian spices and groceries store opened up and not far from where I live! Oh well, we’re going to pay them a visit and see just what they have. Hopefully they’ll have some of what I used to get back in Maryland. Hopefully.
Hope everyone is enjoying their week. The weather in NM is beautiful as it usually is - sunny with temps in the low 80s. No rain, which we do need.
Avast me mateys! I be back from me Evening Prayers at the church house.
I suppose that’s as piratey one can get for ecclesiastical purposes.
Yay for sold boat MOOOOOOM! Yay for foreseeable countertops too. I kinda sorta want new ones but don’t want to spend the money so unless the kitchen countertop fairy bestows them upon me guess that won’t be happenin’.
I shall take nighttime sinus stuff and repair to yon bunk.
I am so very tired of apartment hunting. Great places out of my price range or affordable places in neighborhoods I wouldn’t send my worst enemy. I NEED TO WIN THE LOTTERY so I can keep and remodel this house
I received a text from my son asking how I make my red potatoes. I was a bit puzzled, because I used red potatoes in a variety of recipes, so I asked him to be more specific.
He texted back that he was asking about the potatoes I make in the white casserole dish. He was talking about “Those Friggin’ Good Potatoes” that Swampy first talked about and then named after my husband called them by that name.
Anyway, I called my son and told him how to make them. Since their microwave is tiny, he’ll have to bake them. I then sent the link to the recipe in the Mumper Recipe blog.
Last night he and one of his roommates made hot wings. I think I’m going to send him a book of my recipes.
It was a long work day, but that’s nothing new. They’ve become the new norm for me and I anticipate I won’t see any real relief for close to another year.
Good morning! Yogurt for breakfast - yum! Plus a drawing or two to futz with and another tutorial in SolidWorks to play with. Thus goeth my life at work.
Lasagna for supper tonight - I made sketty sauce yesterday, and some of it will be hijacked for lasagna, which I was going to build last night, but I was just too tired. So today it is.
The weekend promises to be nice, so I’ll be tending to the front garden - it’s become inundated with grasses, plus there are long, spindly dead stalks that need to be snipped back. It shouldn’t take too long… in theory. We shall see.
That’s all I’ve got. Happy Thursday and happy Last Day of Summer!!!
I was in the ladies’ room and I noticed a sticker on the TP holder. It said “Install with this side down.” Naturally, it was installed with that side up. It made me laugh. Obviously, I’m easily amused.
Some days, you take what amusement you can get :).
I seem to be nocturnal this week, but at least the mouth is doing better (managed probably 24+ hours without needing any sort of pain relief, swelling is nearly completely gone). Tight week money-wise, scheduled a couple of payments before realizing (too late to change either) that I’d forgotten this is the week DH’s union dues were extorted, so I had less to work with this week than I’d assumed. Still do-able, just tighter than I’m happy about.
Big plans for the day include finishing laundry (I dream of the hamper staying empty for more than a few hours), a batch of sausage/cheese/biscuit sandwiches, a minor grocery run, and picking up “Double Dexter” from the library. Sleeping at some point might be a good move too.
