You are correct. I wasn’t comparing. There is no comparison. There can be no worse trade…ever! (Walker). All Viking fans born in the last 15 years will regard every Viking transaction with apprehension. I was merely evoking the feeling.
I couldn’t agree more.
When the Moss trade rumors first began, I said that any team that got Moss would not be happy. This is a great move by the Vikings, and Oakland will regret getting Moss.
The Raiders won four games last year. They traded for an athletic receiver that has proven that he can out run and out catch most recievers in the NFL. That receiver’s name is Randy Moss.
And the Raiders will be lucky to win three games next year.
Randy Moss is poison. I haven’t seen someboby so talented produce such an ill effect on a team since Ryan Leaf. The Vikings will be far better without him, and the Raiders will be worse with him (if that’s possible). Football is a team sport. If it ain’t working in the locker room, it ain’t gonna work on the field neither.
If the Raiders don’t find themselves a decent running back, it’s not going to matter if Moss is on the team or not.
The Raiders had Jerry Rice, and didn’t finish on top with his help. What makes anyone think that one player, no matter how good, can make that much of a difference when added to a team? There is more evidence of a letdown for the teams that lose marquee players- example; Miami.
Also, is it Al Davis’ reputation that brings “second chance” players to the Raiders?
On a related topic, sports talk around Pittsburgh has it that no one will really miss Plaxico Burress when he leaves- it’s almost a foregone conclusion. Derrick Mason’s name has come up, but I don’t know if it’s more than rumor yet.
What was bandied about this morning is this, predicated on the assumption that Red McCombs is an evil man born from a dungheap and cast upon this world to cause grief and misery:
Fowler puts down $15 to $20 million in earnest money.
McCombs says, “Haha, sucker!” and trades away Randy Moss.
Fowler withdraws his offer, and McCombs laughs all the way to the bank.
I heard that the Ravens were courting Plax. But that may be a rumor.
This is the best trade the Vikings have ever made. This is not mere speculation on my part, it’s a fact. How do I know this? Sid Hartman is portraying the trade as a huge mistake.
Sid doesn’t badmouth anyone until he’s absolutely sure they’re gone, or they’re dead.
Those of you who don’t know who Sid Hartman is will never understand how funny this is.
I can’t help but notice how similar this is to the recent trade by the Toronto Raptors of Vince Carter. Carter was a legitimate all-star and made some spectacular moves on the court. But, he is also a whiney, self-centered arsehole who only played hard when he felt like it.
It became obvious the Raptors had no chance of any success as a team with him on it, and they traded him away for next to nothing. Some guys, no matter how undeniably talented they are, just aren’t worth it.
I am a Packer fan and I Do not like this trade because I think it helps the Vikings tremendously. I t wasn’t just that Moss was a a distraction, but also that Tice came in and said he would build the offense around Moss, which is one of those things that sounds good in theory but in practice doens’t work This trade allows them to get out of that mindset and think more about creating a balanced team.
Are you fucking joking? He was 38 when he signed with the Raiders. Rice was a possesion receiver the year the Niners released him, he had already lost his step, and I say that as the biggest Jerry Rice fan on the boad.
Now I’ll go back to wishing John York didn’t exist.
I’ll agree with **Octopus **and the others. I think this is good for Minn. They’ll get to solidify their defense with 2 new picks, get a good LB and savea couple mill all in one move. Losing his offense, if and when he stays healthy, in his head, and on the field will be tough but can be acomplished.
I said last month Minn is on the rise, and still do–this can only help (then again I said the Pack would finish 3rd in their division his year).
…and Al Harris is the happiest man in the world tonight. (and the AZ fans)
Anyone who thinks this will hurt the Raiders is dreaming. I’d wager even odds that the Raiders win the division next season.
They need a running back, sure, but this year happens to be a clearace sale on running backs. Today I heard talk about how Maurice Clarette would be lucky to go in the high 3rd low 2nd round, becuase there is a glut of good running backs in the draft.
Couple that with the plethora of proven free agent backs, and it’s a buyer’s market for the ground game.
Moss’ll fit in fine down in the black hole. I remember similar hand wringing about how TO would be a cancer for the Eagles. (I was one of the deluded.) I’m the first to admit that Moss is no TO; Owens has never been criticized for effort or heart, and likely never will. But Moss is probably more talented than Owens when he plays. And since Scary will be more than happy to air him out countless jump balls, I think it will be a frighteningly good fit.
Scary is most comfortable in a 2WR 2TE scheme as the base package, with all four being legitimate targets. Moss and Porter certainly fit the bill, Jolley is no slouch, and Teyo Johnson is very fast with passable hands for a TE, so it seems like a pretty good building strategy.
They do need to dump money, though, and it’s looking like it going to come from the defense, which IMO would be a giant mistake. Dump Gannon and his pricey contract, pick up a QB with the second round pick and hope Clarette is still available in the 3rd. If not, take whichever underclassmen has the best hands.
That still leaves money to unload, but that’s all the thought I’ve put into it. I’m a Giants fan, after all. (We need a MLB. Not OL. MLB. MLB. And more MLB. Need. Desperately.)
