As I recall, the phrase, “Impeach the Motherfucker Already,” was being used by Dan Savage two years ago. Of course, Dan Savage is an ass and a bully. But it does seem to be a common sentiment.
It can be “politic” to be a bit gentle with one’s fellow politicians. But right now (& for the last dozen years) there is a persistent concern about Washington being too timid in stopping abuses by pols, and too indifferent to the voters who got them in. I think it’s good that someone in the caucus is choosing to align with the base instead of with self-serving Washington caution. Let’s see if the proposition gets more support in the caucus (rude language or not).
Certainly I have one although perhaps it is not rising to the lofty levels some persons desire for the membership of this board.
the point is the analysis if you will that you quote seems very myopic - such things are not just the questions of the elections of 2020, but the cohesion and the unity of the opposition and even the opposition leaners. It is a silly level of thinking.
The kinds of rhetoric used by Tlaib can reinforce the intra group solidarity, the circling of the wagons. And this helps in the cohesion of the immediate politics, supports in the polls giving more of the backbone to the opposition, and making things harder.
Not all the political effects are the election results anticipated, in the final framing.
And? Have you ever heard the old white men who swear on the floor of the Congress? But it’s the brown woman, doing so in a bar in a private meeting, that is being criticized.
They’ve missed what, one paycheck now? People may be able to handle that financially, but it’s going to be very demoralizing.
They miss another paycheck, and there’s gonna be mass walkouts.
They go 3 pay cycle without getting paid, you’re gonna end up with a small percentage of people who have some sort of weird obsessive loyalty to their company left, everyone else will be out the doors.
Shut down air travel, and you’re going to have a good portion of the country against you.
Today is Day 16 of the shutdown. Tied for second with the 2013 shutdown, and only 3 days away from equalling the legendary 1995-96 shutdown.
ETA: Since the House and Senate have adjourned until Tuesday evening and afternoon, respectively, this shutdown will definitely last through Tuesday, which will be Day 18. I suppose a miracle could occur and the House and Senate could pass the same legislation on Tuesday night, and hustle it over for Trump’s signature during his prime tweeting hours, so that the government could reopen on Wednesday, but that seems unlikely to say the least.
If we’re talking about Trump, there has always been a good portion of the country against him. I agree, the longer this shutdown goes on, the more that will abandon him. They hopefully are beginning to realize he’s not very good at deal making.
Mitch Albom has a pretty laughable take on this. He got all hung up on the profanity aspect and thinks her usage of mf represents a new low point in politics. Maybe it’s because religion is important to him. I don’t see other reasons anyone else would sincerely think a single instance of general profanity is relevant.
Sure. Is motherfucker the only word that not allowed? What about bullshit? Chickenshit? Asshole? Fuck, shit, pussy, or bitch? Is motherfucker removal-worthy?
