Rate your looks on a scale of 1 to 10.

I voted 8, but that’s an average. To most people, I’m probably around a 6.5. I have an attractive face and decent body, but I’m not very masculine, which to most women is a solid turnoff. Women who like “cute” polite, nice guys find me extremely hot. Also, gay dudes.

2 . . . and that’s on a good day.

**10 **(in base 2)

I’m a 3. Not worth noticing, but somebody you have to (probably reluctantly) step around if you somehow find yourself in my path.

I’m a four. But I’ve got a great personality.

Don’t be ridiculous. I looked in the portrait gallery, you are being way to harsh on yourself!

Oh man. I messed that one. This reminds me why I always just lurk. This was to be replied to Rushgeekgirl’s comment. Missed edit window, sorry!

Depending on my hair, skin, make-up, clothing, etc… I can look anywhere from 4 to 9. I have really good days and really bad days. On most days I’m between 5 and 6, I think.

  1. Once had my art teacher tell me in the midst of a self-portrait project (that I vocally hated) that I had to get used to drawing unattractive people as well.

I’d assess myself as a solid 6. I’m kind of funny-looking, IMHO - too-big nose, very wide angular face, puffy upper eyelids, uber-curly hair - but not unattractive.

That said, it matters less and less to me how others rate me. My kids aren’t embarrassed to be seen with me, my dogs think I’m a solid 9-9.5 (depending on whether I’m offering them their usual food or a treat,) and my husband thinks I’m an 11+.

In my honest opinion, you are a 6.

ETA: I rated myself a seven (for my age bracket) but that’s face-on. In profile, a four! (Weak chin, Bob Hope nose)

Probably a straight-down-the-middle 5. Hard to really gauge your own looks.

I’m neither good or bad looking. People don’t really remember what I look like, but they don’t run down the street screaming when they see me either.
I can live with that.

When I look back at pictures of me when I was young, I hate myself for not trying harder to get lucky with girls, because I was about an 8. Now I look like my dad.

I am probably the opposite of what people consider attractive. Overweight, buckteeth, kinky hair, glasses, I could go on. Seriously, I could.

I would rate myself 1.

But! I wouldn’t change a thing (the extra weight will cause health problems eventually, so that’s something I have recently tried battling). Seriously, thank goodness for counter cultures and sub cultures and experiences that can make a 1 feel like a 9. Because it makes for a very interesting outlook and inlook.

Rating your own looks is a little silly. Most people rate themselves “above average” when asked this question, notwithstanding the results of this poll. We don’t see ourselves how we really are, which is why so many people “hate having their picture taken”; it’s not because they’re not photogenic, it’s because they don’t realize how unattractive they really are. We also don’t hear ourselves which is why some people tend to complain about their recorded voice.

There was a study done in which participants had their photo taken and were then invited back after a couple of weeks to identify their actual photo out of 11 total photos, 10 of which were altered to make them either uglier or prettier. A lot of people can’t even choose their own photo out of a line up, instead asserting that their altered “attractive” photos were more likely to be the actual photo than the actual photo or any of the uglier photos.

People are funny.

That said, I’m a 10, definitely.

The average of this poll now falls on 5.49375 (might as well be precise); which makes it seem pretty accurate then.

You really shouldn’t be looking at a mean for this calculation (if you are trying to say the numbers agree that most people rate themselves above average). 51.25% of the respondents (we’re at 180 at this exact moment) rated themselves a 5 or below, so most people on this board as of now do not rate themselves as above average.

I voted that I’m a 6. Despite needing to lose 50lbs, I think I’m fairly attractive. When I am in great shape, I think I’m an 8 or so.

Tricky – I’ve always been a “if you’re into that sort of thing” kinda guy.

If you liked the hair metal look in the 80’s/90’s, then I might’ve done it for you then.
If you like the shaved head and 4" goatee look, then I might do it for you now.

That was something I discovered in my teens, and it’s always worked out nicely – adopt an “outside the norm” look (while staying true to yourself, of course), and you’ll find that there are people you would have never thought you could have attracted who are interested in you. Most would look at me and say “three, maybe a four because he has very nice eyes”, but there’s always a couple who say “nine, no less than an eight”. Works for me.
