Okay, maybe you have a point. While **Q.E.D. ** may usually give correct advice, he didn’t in these two cases. That said, your response is way, way out of proportion to his attempt to help. Both of you are wrong, but you’re more wrong.
Much like you were all over Q.E.D for the reinstall suggestion, ignoring everything else.
Please, take a second, and tell yourself, “He was trying to help.”
Thanks for the link Mangetout, I didn’t know that had been developed.
Hal
I bet a dollar.
Naw, I think I’ll just slip a link into my sig to confuse the issue.
Yikes! Ok, you’re not an asshat, you’re a drama queen. Not everyone sided with me, as you apparently failed to notice. No one is trying to drive you off the board. As I’ve pointed out time and time again in this post, the main issue I have with you is the way you responded to me in those threads. And you realize you were out of line. That’s good enough for me. I just hope, should you choose to remain her after all, that you show a little respect when you disagree with someone. If you do that, there won’t be any more problems.
I don’t usually venture out of hiding while perusing the Pit, but I’m going to risk it, this time.
RatInDaKitchen, you did have at least one good point. Q.E.D. was, technically, wrong about both answers. My guess would be that makes his record, allowing for non-GQ posts, something like 1500 wins, 2 losses. You just happened to catch him on the wrong day. He’s one of the most helpful, prolific answerers of questions in GQ. And, his answers are almost always good. Even the advice he gave you, that sent you into a screaming tizzy, was sound advice, given what he knew of the situation. He did overreact, a tad, IMO. But, we all have our off days.
You, on the other hand, went sailing way over the line. That’s already been addressed by others, here. Take their advice. Go think calming thoughts for a bit. I realize your response to Q.E.D. would not have been at all unusual on many boards. It is, here. That’s part of why we like it here.
Q.E.D. happens to be among the people I most respect on the board. He’s earned it. I realize you couldn’t know that, but no one deserves the reaction you spewed on him. And, when you’re new to a group, you get very little slack until you prove your worth having around. You haven’t proved that, yet, but they’re giving you a little slack, by letting you stay. Your choice.
Yes, newbies get crapped on (check my stats), but no more, and possibly less, than on any other board. In part, that’s due to folks like yourself, who hit the board with a big splash, upset the folks who think of this as home, and vanish. If you choose to be one of those, godspeed. If you choose to stay, I think you’ll like it here, once you adjust to the fact that this is not a flame-and-blame board. You strike me as someone who just might have something to contribute, if you can dump the 'tude. Just don’t go pissing on people’s shoes, like that.
Wow. Thank you, Davebear! It’s nice to know at least some people feel the way you do. And FWIW, I’ll freely admit I might have overreacted a bit, but Rat’s comments rubbed me just exactly the wrong way. I, too, sense a bit of intelligence in him, to be honest, and I hope he puts it to good use here. But, I do bite back. Heh.
Hey, Q.E.D., remember when I asked about the mechanics of front opening switchblades in GD, and you said I might be looking for stilletos, and then you corrected yourself and I didn’t tell you you were wrong and then follow that up with a post about how wrong you were and then go to another thread and ask if you were always wrong or if it was just in the threads I saw and in return you didn’t pit me for being a jerk?
Good times, man, good times.
Ah, memories 2trew. Those were the days.
[Real Genius]That’s a wonderful story, 2trew. I notice you’ve stopped stuttering.[/Real Genius]
All I have to offer is that it truly makes me sad to see a new poster who is obviously intelligent and able to effectively convert thought to the written word, driven from the board.
I’ve seen this happen over and over. We’ll never know what RatInDaKitchen could have contributed after gaining some SDMB experience.
We have all had to be new once and we’ve all made mistakes.
Honey
i still have to go back to read the rest of the posts in the thread, but Q.E.D.… i think he was being a wad… and reinstalling an OS is actually not such a rare thing (for me at least) hehehe… I only just got back admin rights to my work PC
At least we know you are human… and not some sanctimonius jerk like others that have come and (more noticably) gone.
dude, i know your posts are always worth a read, but uh, lets say i wont ask you for any computer advice huh
maybe you should hold back with the advice, cos, well, some people believe everything they read online… it’s on the internet, it has to be true.
Q.E.D., it seems you’re just a magnet for people bitching about your GQ answers.
Oh, get off it, Honey. This guy isn’t being driven from the board. He’s just been told that he can either stick around or be an asshat, but he can’t do both. He was being obnoxious in the first thread (after all, Tuba probably has access to controls most of us don’t around here), and he was deliberately being an asshat in the second.
I agree that it sucks when a newbie gets piled on for not rallying round one of our sacred cows and that it happens all too often around here, but that’s not what’s happening in this case.
Yeah, I saw that. At least he wasn’t terribly rude about it.
You’re welcome. Just giving you your “props”, while trying to educate Rat on how things work, here. (Davebear != SuckUp) As I said, you’ve earned it. Your answers are always rational and comprehensible and, generally, sound. That’s a lot more than I can say for a lot of folks.
Look Davebear if you are going to be nice, helpful and funny I am going to have no choice but to like you-- so knock it off!

Just kidding- nice to have you around.
He left, nobody drove him anywhere. If you leave that easily you lack spine.

With his attitude, I doubt he would have contributed much, the ungrateful bastard.
This can be a very intimidating board. Being called a “piece of shit” most likely won’t convince him/her to calm down, learn the rules and become a productive poster.
Aren’t there more than a few posters who had a very rocky start here but went on to become respected members?
Or perhaps I should remove my rose-colored glasses.
Damn coding.
