What would the modeling agency be telling these girls to expect? The vibe of ordering young, desperate models for dinner sounds sketchy to being with.
I’m not a show biz expert so I have to ask what was the general expectation of the models re these meetings with a famous celebrity who does not know them from Adam. A lot of these models were late teens to early 20’s so not a lot of life experience but let’s assuming they have some common sense. Obviously they did not expect to be drugged, but Is this intimate dinner scenario something they go into expecting a sexual move to be made, or are they anticipating he’s going to highlight them in some project … or what?
They expected a free meal, making friends with a rich and powerful man who could advance their career, and a request for sex that they could say no to.
Drugging aside is this something commonly done in show biz circles re taking struggling young models out and seeing if sex is on the table? It seems like a large investment of time and resources by the celebrity to woo young, struggling models with dinner and gifts just for some sex he could easily get from a professional who would leave afterward or some female fan in a lounge. In reading the deposition he’s (beyond the drugs) putting substantial time and effort into seducing them (and their families).
It basically puts the modeling agencies into the position of being defacto pimps. Do the girls understand (drugging aside) this is how the game is played?
The article says “models” but the one women they describe was an actress. I could easily see why an actress would meet with a famous comedian/actor with his own show and expect it to be something other than prostitution.
Definitely par for the course in show biz. For models it’s a common meme in fiction but I don’t know any models. I heard a young writer in Hollywood describe how a producer asked her if she had any friends who would be willing after she turned him down.
I expect they thought they were going on a modelling job, arranged by the agency.
I’m pretty sure he could have fed them any bullshit line about why he needed a model there. Like his regular person to read lines with was away, etc, etc.
As many models are aspiring actresses they would be delighted to meet a powerful Hollywood celebrity they might seek advice from.
Nothing excuses his behaviour, whatever their expectations may have been, I think.
Pretty sure this was some kind of fetish for him, if you can call drugging and raping a fetish. He could have talked his way into sex easy with his fame.
What evidence is there that he drugged them against their will/knowledge anyway. As opposed to saying “heres xyz drug, lets kick back, relax and have it”.
On the other hand if he was in a position of actual authority over them then that is abuse of the vilest level.
I’m familiar with the notion of a casting couch the oddness here (to me) is that these are not starlets competing for an actual available position then being pressured for sex, these are quite young models told that they are being picked (by the modeling agency) to have a one on one intimate dinner behind closed doors in a dressing room with a middle aged celebrity who has no notion of their work or skills and who is not offering a modeling job …he just wants to meet them… and feed them dinner.
Maybe it’s the best shot they will ever get at the brass ring, but I am interested in what would be in their heads re how this is going to go down as they go to these dinner meetings.
I’m not sure how you meant this but here is a link to a timeline detailing allegations from 36 women who have accused Cosby of inappropriate sexual behavior, including drugging them so he could have sex with them. You may have missed the news coverage.
After reading the article linked in the OP I don’t know what “authority” he had over the young woman (Jennifer Thompson), beyond being the star of the most popular television show of the moment and her being a young, naive, aspiring actress. I think a 50ish celebrity of his stature pressuring a teenage girl to have sex with him is engaging in the sort of behavior that would be expected from a sexual predator.
You’re kind of assuming the models were told the truth about the evening. And, for that matter the agency.
I doubt very much they called the agency and told them the models will be coming and having dinner with Cosby. I expect they said they needed a model for…blah, blah, bullshit…so many hours. I would imagine the agency told the model that bullshit.
It begs credibility that they called the agency and asked for a dinner companion. Modelling agencies take a dim view of being treated like escort services. Even for celebrities!
I have followed the coverage. I asked what evidence is there that he actually went out and drugged women against their will, as in spiked their drink with a roofie for instance, rather then him saying asBricker points out in this post saying “Hey baby, I got these 'ludes. How about we take them and then have sex?” (which IIRC he has admitted that he has done) or the predators old reliable; alcohol and time?
