We are rewatching Lost and my wife has a theory. She thinks Lock died in the original plane crash and was inhabited by Smokie from the beginning. I see signs that she may be right.
First of all, it’s Locke (John Locke, actually), not Lock. Second, the first objection I can think of is that John Locke made it off the island which is something that The Man In Black was unable to do.
The character of Ben Linus didn’t exist until they hired Michael Emerson for three episodes and realized what an asset they had in their hands. If they had decided to stick to some “plan”, viewers would have missed out on the show’s most interesting and fun character.
Don’t mean to thread crap, but there were so many unanswered questions at the end that I wanted to see the writers in a perp walk for gross incompetence.
They threw out so many possibilities and resolved so few that it should be a crime. I am still pissed.
Gorge has a great blog called Geronimo Jack’s Beard. He posted his final podcast last night. One thing he said that cleared up one question is that the still shot of the plane at the very end was put there by ABC to give a break between the end of the show and moving directly to the nightly news (or whatever came next). It was not the writers or creators who did it and it should not be considered a “clue”.
ETA - and I thought the end was brilliant. Plenty of answers and plenty of mysteries. My friends and I still watch 2 episodes every Tuesday night. Also there is enough intrigue that I will be buying the box set when it comes out. Hated the Soprano’s ending at first, but grew to love it, too.
