You do realize, I hope, that the person who wrote bitterly about the Stalinist perversion was a committed socialist his whole life, and who fought with the Marxist militia in the Spanish Civil War?
In short, the idea of equality and egalitarianism does in no way imply that everyone is equal, or should be. Socialism aims to create a society where everybody is treated as an equal.
