(Of course the point is that someone started that board for the express purpose of saying shit about people behind their backs, so it’s really not the same thing at all)

I look at all this and, well, get a very sardonic feeling. This isn’t half of the bizarre, vindictive, stupid shit that goes on on Usenet. On Usenet, there is no effective governance. There is no way for anyone to prevent someone from flooding a whole newsgroup with random nonsense posts that look like they come from someone else entirely, or from broadcasting nonsensical flame wars (SNUH! SNUH! SNUH YOU FUCKING AUK-TARD! SNUH YOU FUCKING CHILD RAPING AUK-TARD!) across hundreds of discussion groups. This is spam, but not commercial spam. It’s the spam created by people who have more psychological problems than they have pairs of underpants.
Just keep that in mind. Nothing the morons at the other message board ever do will come close to the full anarchic mindless nonsensical sound and AUK-raping fury of Usenet. They think too small.
Not particularly, for me at least. It was long ago that someone linked me over there because there was some less than nice discussion about me (I want to say the first time was about me saying Marines were hot in a thread about the movie Jarhead, or something equally silly) and since then it’s fairly regular.
I honestly don’t take myself so seriously as to be offended, rather I think it’s pretty darn funny. Why on earth would any reasonable adult care that random, anonymous strangers are making fun of them? I take it for what it is: stupid, childish humor (and much like a fart joke, it’s the type of thing even the most high class of us giggle at sometimes).
Certainly there are some things expressed that are crossing a line, but I’d argue that some of the opinions expressed by some of the members here- while being definitely more eloquently put- are vastly more offensive to me. But in either case, it’s just a message board- don’t take it so darn seriously (“you” not being you, Sapo, but rather the general “you.”).
Yep. I loved usenet (until I started getting death threats via telephone). It was definitely out of control at times.
I still miss those days. Now it’s just spam, it seems.

Fucking mods and their dark magic.
What’re you, new? They’ve been disappearing threads started by socks, trolls and returning bannees for at least as long as I’ve been coming here, if not longer. There’s nothing “going on.” If you’ve noticed it more often, well, perhaps there have been more of the above to deal with of late.
