Realistic ways that the shutdown could end

You’re acting as if the stuff Trump offered on TV is an actual offer, which it isn’t.

It’s total bullshit from top to bottom, because Trump can offer you a deal at 10:00 and by 11:00 be on Twitter denying that he ever offered you a deal.

You don’t seem to understand that it’s impossible to negotiate with Trump. Of course there have been negotiations in the past. But not with Donald “Art of the Deal” Trump, because Trump doesn’t make deals. His brain doesn’t work that way.

If you think we need more funding for border security, that could happen. But how does shutting down the government relate to increased border security? It’s such an emergency that despite two years of Republican control, the emergency has come to a head now, and now, right now, is when we need that money?

If you had another 5 billion dollars to spend on border security, would you spend it building a giant concrete wall in the middle of the desert? Or would you spend it on more border patrol agents, more cameras, more enforcement of e-verify, more immigration courts so we can deport people more quickly?

The Democrat’s position isn’t “we get everything and you get nothing.” Their position is that we pass a short term resolution to fund the government and pay our bills, and then we negotiate over how much more we’re going to spend on border security and what that money is going to be spent on, and how we’re going to raise taxes to pay for it. Just kidding about the last part, of course we’re not going to raise taxes to pay for increased spending.

It’s just plain unAmerican!!

And of course, here we have another example of a Republican coming in and counseling the Democrats to just give up and give Trump everything he wants.

Yes, I see why Republicans would want that. Why exactly would Democrats want that, though? What’s in it for them? They get a win from a temporary delay in deporting kids? That’s the big win you’re giving them?

Except that’s not really a big win, is it? So what exactly are you proposing to give the Democrats that would be a win equivalent to building the Great Wall of Trump?

Again, this isn’t what you’d give up to get the Great Wall of Trump. It’s what Democrats would gain.

There is nothing that you could realistically offer the Democrats that would give them a win equivalent to the Great Wall of Trump. It couldn’t happen, because the Republican Senate wouldn’t go along with it, because they don’t give a shit about the wall. They won’t give Democrats anything for the wall, because it’s nothing to them. It’s all for Trump. So in reality, there’s not going to be an equivalent win for the Democrats, because it can’t happen, politically. And it can’t happen practically either, because the minute Trump offers something of equivalent value, the Deplorables are going to start screaming.

Trump can’t offer amnesty for Dreamers in exchange for the wall, because even if he did, he’d change his mind five minutes later when he turns on Fox News.

All of this. They can’t negotiate with Individual 1 because he doesn’t negotiate in good faith and they can’t negotiate with Senate leadership because they don’t care about the wall.

4.5: The NFL and several thousand angry football fans force Trump to cave.

Trump’s supposed to make a shutdown-related announcement this afternoon.

Possibilities:

  1. He concedes gracefully. (Probability: infinitesimal.)

  2. He concedes with great rancor.

  3. He doubles down in some manner (e.g. state of emergency)

  4. Says some meaningless shit to pretend he’s still relevant.

It turns out he concedes like a delusional weakling, because he’s an irrational, incompetent toddler, and Nancy Pelosi is a professional politician who drinks his milkshake a million times before breakfast.

Sarah Sanders just said that we are going to leave climate change for God to address. Coming from the president’s spokesperson, I have to assume this is the official policy of the US.

And there lies the solution. The House and Senate pass resolutions authorizing God to build the wall. After this passes, if the wall isn’t built, what can Trump’s supporters say? Most of them are evangelical Bible-beaters. If they see that God won’t do it, they will have to accept it.

Conversely, if God follows through and builds the wall, what are Democrats going to do? Can’t fight God yanno. Everyone wins.

Spank him, Nancy!

Did she really say that? Cite, please – I gotta read this. Not that I need more proof she’s an imbecile.

Love it.

Seems as though Trump will sign a spending bill to keep the government open and also declare a national emergency and build the wall.
