I’ve been dating my bf for about 3 months but we’ve known each other as friends for a couple years prior to that. Today he sent me a large bouquet of flowers to my work. It’s very sweet and I’m very appreciate (and happy, and tickled, and overjoyed, and thrilled and…all that good stuff). The only problem is, I’m allergic to them. I’ve had to put them in my boss’s cube so my eyes don’t dry up and fall out of my head. I talked with him on the phone and thanked him a lot for the flowers. I haven’t told him that I’m allergic to flowers at all and I don’t want to hurt his feelings by telling him now. So is it ok to just keep that secret until it gets brought up at a future date (which is what I’m thinking of doing) or should I tell him?
Tell him. Why on earth would his feelings be hurt by your doing so?
“Those flowers were the sweetest thing ever. I really love you. However, I’m sorry - I’m allergic: would you mind at all if I keep them in a friends cube for the moment? I really want to keep them here, but I just can’t.”
“Oh, stpauler, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. Next time I’ll get chocolates.”
“No, I’m sorry.”
You’ve known each other for a few years, neither of you did anything wrong, imho it should be fine if you tell him.
And if it’s easy enough, take a picture of the flowers and put them in your cubicle!
