I’m helping coordinate the bachelorette party for my friend (I’m a bridesmaid). The party will start at Lucky Cheng’s which is on 1st Ave b/w East 1st St & East 2nd Street. I’m looking for a bar to move the party to afterwards that is preferably within a couple blocks’ walking distance. If there is a better option you can recommend that is far enough away to go by cab, that’s okay too! I don’t want a club, but a place to hang out, dance a bit if we want, and just have fun dammit! If it helps, the girls are all in their late 20s.
Really? Nada?
You’re not far from theDouble Crown, which is where my sister had her bachelorette party last year. We had dinner in a back room which was separate from the bar and restaurant out front, so I can’t speak for that atmosphere, but there was also a hangout area downstairs, where some members of the party stayed till the wee hours. Good food, good drinks.
You’re also a handful of blocks from McSorley’s, but it’s likely to be packed with tourists wanting to y’know, get a drink at McSorley’s.
Forgot to mention, B Bar and Grill, where we had brunch so I don’t know the night scene, but if the patio’s open in the evening it could be a good place on a hot summer night.
Heh, a friend of mine had her bachelorette party at Lucky Cheng’s as well. It was pretty fun. I don’t have any bar recommendations though, sorry.
Ha! I had my bachelorette party at Lucky Cheng’s. It was about 10 years ago though. After dinner (and show!) we just hung out in another room - I think there was karaoke. We had a blast.
I told my friends that I didn’t want to go up on stage as part of the dinner show. They thought that was unacceptable so instead they paid the old chinese man in the leather teddy to give me a lap dance. We had the whole room cracking up.
I’d recommend a rooftop bar like the Hotel Gansevoort. It’s in the Meatpacking District so you and your gal pals can teeter around the cobblestone streets on your Jimmy Choo’s living out your Sex and the City bachelorette party fantasies (in a fun way;))
Oooh a rooftop bar could definitely be fun, especially since the party’s in August so it should be nice evening weather. I’ll look into that too.
Bar 13 on 13th at University Place (near Union Square) is slightly closer than the Meatpacking District and also has a rooftop bar, although it’s been a long time since I"ve been there. I don’t recall whether there were speakers upstairs, for one. The dancing was usually pretty good but it’s very near NYU, so depending when in August the party is, it might be full of new-to-Manhattan undergrads on fake IDs.
