Recommend me some Wii games!

So I finally broke down and bought myself a Wii. However, because I’d been telling myself for ages that I wasn’t going to get one, I’ve been determinedly ignoring all Wii related advertising and such in order not to get tempted. Now though, I haven’t a clue what the “hot” titles are, or what games are currently well reviewed.

I’m definitely getting Twilight Princess (always loved Zelda, OoT and Majora’s Mask are being lined up on the Virtual Console for as soon as I buy a classic controller). I’ll probably get Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario and Mario Kart as well. Okami is looking like a front runner at the moment too.

So Dopers, given that I like fantasy, action adventure and RPG-like games, what should I buy/download from virtual console??

I strongly recommend the PS2 version of Okami over the Wii version. The Wii version requires you to shake the controller to attack, and you attack a lot in Okami.

Anything that starts with LEGO and ends with a well-known pop culture entertainment franchise (Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones) is generally a safe bet, especially if you’ve got someone to play with. They’re all casual co-op – a second player can jump in and out at any time, and the underlying game mechanics are very forgiving.

If you’ve got other people, Smash Bros. Melee is another must have. Simple to pick up, and it’s filled with humor and nostalgia.

Are you looking for Wii games or Virtual Console & WiiWare games? My Wii doesn’t have online access so I really can’t help you too much with VC or WiiWare.

For the Wii:
Fire Emblem - a tactical RPG that is very difficult but fun
Tales of Symphonia II - an action RPG whose story is not as good as the first, but the gameplay is just as much fun as the first

There are several RPGs in the work for the Wii this year. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers (maybe), Arc Rise Fantasia, and (recently released) Rune Factory: Frontier which is part Harvest Moon (literally) and half action RPG.

Sorry yes, I could have been clearer. I meant either. More Wii games really, as Virtual Console games I imagine will mostly be games I’ve already played and just want for the nostalgia value.
