Recommendations on a cool heavy-industrial band?

Hardcore is a guitar riff that gets people moving, and a screaming singer. It sounds alot like metal, but a hardcore fan will never admit it.

blur,

By the definition, would early Hole be hardcore?

If i had to suggest some industrial bands for someone to try out, i’d go with these:

Din Fiv more industrial than EBM
Hocico (pronounced, hoe-see-ko) great spanish language industrial
Pig kind of esoteric (no, not Pigface, though they’re not bad either)
Razed in Black another classic industrial band
Spahn Ranch
VNV Nation newer more “cultured” industrial?..
And One some more german beats
Coil classic!!! though not for the faint of heart…
Haujobb another old school band.

Not quite a dozen. I wanted to pick industrial bands not really mentioned above (i hope i didn’t skip over some already given time) that are just as good as some of the more popular (if industrial/EMB could ever be termed popular) bands out there. I also wanted to stay away as much as i could from the guitar driven bands, even though the OP liked Sepultura so much.

Godflesh. Get “Pure,” probably my favorite. The rest I could think of have already been named.

Godflesh, good call.

Hole is pop, IMHO.

Hole now,is pop.
The first album,no.

Amon Duul I, or is that a little too pre-industrial for you? Described at the time as sounding like it had been recorded in an operating sheet metal shop. Is that what you young people think of as “industrial?” I ask because I heard someone describe Marlyn Manson as industrial and it just didn’t fit with my understanding.

Amon Duul II (different band, long story) is a little too commercial. Can has its moments but is too lyrical.

Since when are RIB and Haujobb considered old school and classic?! It’s not like they’ve been around for that long. Haujobb started out in the mid 90s…and RIB 1st demo came out in 94. And come one…And One…and VnV nation…industrial?! And One used to be ebm and are slowly turning synth-pop, VnV is basically on the same route, but are a MUCH better band that And One. By the way, look for VnV’s new cd to be out in the Fall.

Ahh Crap! I can’t belive i forgot to mention this band as a recommindations…Pop Will Eat Itself should suit Mahaloth just fine.

Oh boy. I guess if i had to hmm and haw, i’d say after carefull consideration (and checking the Homes and Gardens CD to actually see it came out in '93!!) i’d say Haujobb was included in my list cause of their sound, instead of their age. Uh… yeah. As for Razed in Black?.. that’s easy! If they’re able to take on a classic like “Assimilate” for Hymns of the Warlock then they’re classic enough for me!
And One and VNV Nation aren’t industrial enough?.. ouch. This thread is reminding me more and more of rec.music.industrial.
How about aDuck (great stuff, even if i’ve only ever heard 3 of their songs) and say… Leaether Strip?
There really are a lot of good EBM and industrial bands out there… just not a lot of them get much exposure. A good way to find some more ideas for bands might be to go to rec.music.industrial and take a look at various posts, especially nightclub music line-ups from around the country and world, which are posted regularly. That way you can have a list of bands to take with you into a record store (especially one you can preview the music at!).

Does anyone remember Belfegore?

i don’t know, maybe Raging Speedhorn?

or, my current favourite metal/alternative/whatevercategory itistheyfallinto band:

Defenestration! (their album is called One Inch God)

bit obscure, i’m afraid. influenced heavily by the aforementioned Raging Speedhorn, but better, with a simply marvelous female vocalist; melodic singing changes smoothly and effortlessly to growly-roar. fantastic.

otherwise, i’d recommend Static-X or Soulfly, maybe.

oh, and (hed)p.e. how could i nearly miss those guys out? they absol-crapping-utely rock. definitely at least give them a try. they’ve got 2 albums, i can’t remember what the first is called, but their second, called ‘Broke’ is their best.

My votes are for Chemlab’s Burnout at the Hydrogen Bar or something by Piece Machine (I reviewed them for Alternative Press’s Demorandum, but it didn’t get published).

If ever there was a candidate for “buy this without having heard a note of it”, Defenestration might be it. I’m hearing good things from all the right people about this band, you may have just caused this stock to be upgraded to “buy!”, thanks.

OHGR Review

Just bought it last night. Thanks to HMV record store’s generous return policy, it’s going back after the weekend.

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways:

You know how Gravity Kills vaguely sounds like Nine Inch Nails? This is even less original. Pretty Hate Machine without the cohesiveness, genuine feeling, and attention to detail. The track I’d previously heard “Pore” is interesting enough: it brings back a “funky ONE” (emphasis on the first beat, ask James Brown fans) at a blistering 146 beats per minute. Wait a minute! NIN did this in 1999 with Starf*ckers Inc.!!! What a ripoff! (I’ll be performing this mix for the first and last time this weekend, though, so I can mock lesser DJ’s when this CD gets popular, and it sucks hard enough that it could.)

I guess you can’t teach and old dog new tricks.
OHGR bites!
Smothered Hope indeed.
(Insert Skinny Puppy pun here.)

My apologies for recommending it.

Omg…wtf?!
How could you hate this BRILLIANT CD?!
Sure, it’s pretty simple, but jesus…all…mighty…this thing fuckin rocks!!!
How can you not love the sarcasm and furious rifts and programing on Cracker, or the wicked dance frenzy of Lusid and SLeep?!
I’m a huge puppy fan…and in general a fan of anything that either Cevin or Nivek touch…and this is no different.
Mark Walk and Ogre did a fabulous job…but hey…it’s just my…humble opinion…

ps…new Flesh Field…is amazing!
