Red wine with beef, white wine with fish...

Coke or Pepsi with hamburger

Sprite/Sierra Mist/7Up with chicken

root beer with hot dogs

What goes with pizza?

We are having a pizza party for our office Christmas party, and I volunteered to bring some of the beverages. I got 7Up and caffeine-free Coke and Pepsi. I wanted to get caffeine-free Dr Pepper but they don’t carry it. Am I okay? Should I get some cherry or orange pop (they’re out of grape)?

Beer at a restaurant with pizza. At work, I dunno.

I applaud your getting a variety. You need regular Coke also. Caffeine-free Coke is not Coke. Pepsi is not Coke.

Beer with pizza. Yum. No wonder I’m fat.

However, since it is an office party, I would drink root beer.

I assume beer is out. I would want diet coke, caffinated.

You don’t know my co-workers. Really, caffeine is not a good idea.

How about some Hi-C and turkey?

Dr Pepper and trout?

Coke Zero.

All I know is that one girl told me that wine with pizza was really stupid.

And that the pizza place is the only place that still has Wild Cherry Pepsi on fountain around here.

Yeah, those fuckin’ uncivilized Eye-talians…

Masi or Valpolicella is fantastic with pizza! That girl who told you that is the one that’s really stupid.

Okay, on reflection, that’s a bit harsh, but Christ! If the pizza isn’t worth having with a good bottle of wine, it’s not worth having.

Beer is good, too.

I guess, but I’d sure appreciate “real” pop if I was there. Providing real and diet is the norm I think. To me, this would be like bringing ice milk to an ice cream party.

Moved IMHO --> Cafe Society

twicks, who would be your new best friend if you provided Diet Dr Pepper

Champagne.

Or so I’ve been told at wineries. Champagne supposedly goes well with fatty, greasy foods and it’ll go with pepperoni and cheese for the same reason it goes with foie gras. The people telling me this were trying to get me to buy champagne, but it really does go well with pizza.

To me, it all depends on the pizza, so I can’t give a simple answer to that one.

American-style pizza (thick crust, lots of topping, lots of cheese): Beer. Coke or Pepsi if I’m driving.
Italian-style pizza (crispbread-thin crust, just one or two toppings): A simple Italian red, like Masi, Valpolicella or Chianti. Or beer. Carbonated mineral water if I’m driving.

Red wine. Specifically, Italian red wine.

I’ve never been a fan of beer and pizza. Fat savory foods like pizza call for sweet, sour and thin drinks to cleanse the pallet. I like the idea of champagne or red wine to go with pizza. White wine might work, if you like it. Otherwise, a soda of some kind is required.

Snoopy always had rootbeer with pizza.

Me too. Somehow, even as an adult, the only time I drink root beer is when I am eating a pepperoni pizza (about once a year).

Non-Nouveau (ie, vintage) Beaujolais also is a surprisingly good match with pizza. Somebody also mentioned Valpolicella, which is good as well.
