OMG this is dreadful. I mean really horrible. What were they thinking?! Somebody has put dog poop in my peanut butter!!!
I had heard the online complaints, and then the response from the company. They said all they changed was the outer coating, and that the brown stuff was still chocolate. Poppycock!!
One of the new ones made its way to me for the first time Halloween, and it was a fright. Just really, substantially nasty. It tasted like a combination of grassy Canola and raw Carob. Nothing like chocolate or cocoa at all. The peanut butter flavor was entirely lost, and that really does take some doing.
Great Og on high, that was abysmal. Somebody pass me a Butterfinger.
I wondered a couple of months ago when I got some during a weak moment in the store (they used to be one of my old staples when I weighed 240 20 years ago), if it was them or if my taste buds had evolved or something (I usually get gourmet chocolate anymore). Ate one piece, went blecchh, and gave the rest to the apt. office girls.
In recent years, I have found the holiday special Reese’s to be vastly superior. I’m talking about the Christmas trees, the Valentine hearts, etc.
They’re creamier or something. They better not have messed those up! One of my hobbies is to kill a whole bag in a half hour, then hate myself for the rest of the day…
I just bought some this morning since they were on sale. They’re the spooky skeletons. No idea how good they are but will report back when I’ve had one
Hershey’s insists they haven’t changed the ingredients in their regular Reese’s peanut butter cups, but I agree there’s something going on with them - they are not good at all. I found a different brand at Aldi’s that’s much better.
They have admitted some of their other Reese’s products have been cheapened; however they claim they will change those back starting next year. A grandson of the inventor of the original peanut butter cups called them out about it earlier this year.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have always been my favorite chocolate candy, but it’s been a few years since I ate any candy “bar”. Before that, I always avoided the non-cup shaped ones or undersized or oversized ones because the chocolate/peanut butter ratio was always wrong. Only the traditional cups got it right.
If they truly haven’t changed their formula, then I’d be aiming a hard eye at my suppliers if I were them. That was certainly not cocoa and/or cocoa butter on the outside of that cup. And if the c-suite and Board truly cannot taste the difference, then they are in the wrong business. There is just no excuse for that.
They could be using a different ratio, or different brands of the same ingredients. Or just straight up lying really, not sure if they are not allowed to lie outside of advertisements.
I don’t like them, but the ones I gave out for Halloween last night felt different from the ones in years past. I’ll check with my wife about the taste.
Also I’ve had a very difficult time finding dark chocolate Reese’s. I think the only thing I’ve seen recently includes fudge with the dark chocolate. I just want some dark chocolate and peanut butter
