Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Obviously a cultural icon, but why? What is the attraction of PB + chocolate.

Educate the ill informed.

Tastes like…

I have no idea what the attraction is. The combination of PB and C is utterly revolting to me. I would rather eat skittles.
And I hate skittles.

for me it’s the salty/sweet combination. Peanuts or peanut butter is slightly salty, chocolate is sweet. Kind of why I love chocolate covered pretzels.

I have to say though that I know many people who dislike chocolate with peanut butter.

A lot of people apparently like the combination, as peanut+chocolate flavors appear in other forms of confectionery.

Granted, there are exceptions, as noted above.

The PB taste nothing like peanut butter, for one. It’s more like a vague peanutty taste in a sugar paste. It tastes like “peanut butter” only as much as Boo-Berry cereal tastes like “blueberries”. The confectionary taste is rather unique to Reese’s PB Cups and not really anything like actual peanut butter.

I was sorely disappointed as a 5-year-old when I tried to emulate the commercial and dip an actually chocolate bar into a jar of peanut butter and found it tasted truly terrible. The commerical LIED. :frowning:

Edit:

Yes, it’s pretty much banking on the popularity of nuts-'n-chocolate combinations that work for everything from Turtles, to your regular chocolate covered almonds. Nutty + chocolate = yum!

Edit 2: Full discloser. Reese’s cups were a childhood favourite of mine. I find them too sweet now, and too much. They used to package them in pairs, now they are 3 per package. Too sweet!

See, here they don’t. I don’t think peanut butter appears in any form other than straight peanut butter or satay sauce.

However velvetjones’s post makes sense. I can see how that would work. Off I go to track some down.

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society.

Well that clears things up as we have tons of Boo-Berry products here. Only last week I bought a tube of Boo-Berry sex lube.

But now, because of your description, I am even more intriqued.

There are a multitude of things that I like that I want to have explained to me. The bottom line is, there is no easy way to explain such things. You can’t easily describe why something is funny. (Slapstick? I don’t get it. Fart humor? ditto.)

I love peanutbutter and I love chocolate and yes, the two of them together can be awesome.

I think a peanut-chocolate sex lube would be a little disturbing, actually.

Smooth PB, not chunky.

I didn’t think I’d like the combination, not having been brought up on such a combination. I’m a great fan of Reese’s PB cups now. Can’t get enough of them. Mind you, I like chocolate with almost anything so I’m probably not typical.

Absolutely agreed. The only time I have them is at Halloween, when I’ll grab a bag of those for the trick-or-treaters.

You can buy the minis, you know. Each one a perfectly sized bite of Nirvana.

But peanuts and chocolate do. Eg, Snickers bars.

(Full disclosure - can’t stand the stuff myself. But I seem to be in a minority with you there…)

Chocolate/peanut butter is one of my favorite flavor combos, probably because of the sweet/salty taste. I love it in any form.

And here I was, thinking that if they made a good peanut butter chocolate sex lube, I might quit my job and become a sex worker.

What’s the attraction of peaches and cream? Of toast and jam? A lot of folks like it. I’m not sure it can be effectively depicted verbally.

Same reason kettle corn is popular. Sweet and savory mixed together.

I hate peanuts and peanut butter, but when I was pregnant lo these many decades ago I craved the damned things … and we really need a yucky face.
