Ok, speaking as the board owner of G’Dope, all I can say to out British cousins is “go for it”. It’s well worth the effort (and occasional frustration), and I’m surprised we don’t already have a British board.
It looks as though you’re in the same bind the Aussies were a year or two ago in that you’ve got loads of enthusiasm for this, but not the tech smarts to get a hosted server up and running. We decided to go the ezboard route, which I must say works quite well - on the proviso that you are willing to pay for the service. It’s relatively inexpensive, particularly if you share it, and anything beats the popup hell that is ezboard’s free option (although we did put up with that ourselves for a while). We G’Dopers are unimaginative sods, and the board layout is a basic ezboard template, but you can customise the living heck out of it (Tim Brooke-Taylor in Union Flag shorts as a page background, etc). It supports UK date formats and various timezones, and the like.
If you need any advice from somebody who’s done what you are planning, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, or to drop by G’Dope, and ask.
If you’d like a trial run, I can offer you your own Forum on G’Dope which you can moderate, customise etc yourselves until you get a critical mass of punters together to move to more permanent digs. Heck, we could probably come to some arrangement that you could stay there, but you’d probably get sick of the cricket jibes.
