At the risk of being condemned to sackcloth and ashes for sacrelidge, is there a British version of the SDMB?
The antipodeans have G’Dope , but I;ve noticed (and certainly have myself) several observations, rants and questions that would probably not interest a mainly American readership.
Not that I want out of the Original and Best, of course, just a place to discuss topics that pertain more to this side of the pond. I know you lot are all very accomodating, understanding and so on, but still… Y’know?
It would be nice to have some corner of a foreign messageboard that is forever Blighty.
I’ve been thinking about this too. Not because I don’t like talking to the 'merkins, they’re lovely, but sometimes one needs to drop cultural references without resort to explanation, etc. I was thinking vaguely of putting a message board on my junk site, but I wouldn’t have the skills to install vBulletin, and all the freeware ones are crap.
Would we invite our Paddy neighbours to join in? How about other Europeans?
What? Ireland’s not part of Britain? C’mon… you know you all want to be…
Open to all, (even 'merkins), but with more of a British bent. Y’know - I’ve never been to an Applebee’s, or seen the Wiiiiiinnngmaaaannnn ad., so can add or take nothing from such postings. However, I’ve seen some of the most intelligent debate, wildest stories and funniest postings on this board, so why can’t we do something similar?
(Again - not to userp the great work done here! You mods… deserve a knighthood.)
Any volunteers to set this up? Not me! If I tried I’d probably end up breaking the whole internet.
I would volunteer. A year’s vBulletin license costs $75, which isn’t that much. I’d need technical support (micilin?). I already have a site to use, though if people wanted to fund it, we could have a unique domain name and site (only about $12 a month).
See this is the thing with you damn Americans. You were the ones who started that whole bloody revolution thing and kicked up such a stink about getting out of the Empire! Yet now you sulk when we exclude you!
I guess, like they say, you don’t realise how much you miss something until you lose it.
::ahem::
back on topic,
i’d offer up space on my site but unfortunately its, ah, “down for maintanence” :o
I’m quite happy to offer admin/mod services though if required - since i’m online pretty much all day everyday (apart from weekends at the moment :rolleyes:) its no biggie.
Well vBulletin actually requires someone to be able to configure MySQL and install vBulletin on a Unix box. The actual vB administration seems relatively straightforward. (No offense to the mods or admins).
