Announcement: Domebo.net General Interest and online community board

(Posted with permission of the staff.)

**Capt. Ridley’s Shooting Party **or **CRSP **has set up a new message board, Domebo.netalso currently mofobo.ignorelist.com/forumwhile DNS propagates. Please try the second if the first does not work.

Domebo.net is a free message board with a core community of Dopers. Membership is already over 600 and posts are nearing 10,000 already. Most Dopers are retaining their screen names but that is not a requirement and many have not. The community aspect is growing very fast. The board allows small avatars but you can shut these off in the user control panel. It already has 4 skins or interface styles from which to choose.

There is of course general discussion, questions and debates and a separate forum for politics. In addition The Dark Room is a forum that allows pictures. Look for dogs, cute kids and cats of course. Also some picture tours of places dopers are fond. The Polling Booth uses a message board polling option for voting and discussions.

The board is being run with transparent management and heavy community input.

Thank you to **Marley23 **and the rest of the admin staff for allowing me to post this, and my thanks to **CRSP **for setting up a great board.

Jim

What he said. The avatars are actually quite good too, in that they’re small and tastefully implemented.

Yes, it’s very energized over there right now and a fun place to be. CRSP is doing a great job.

Nice to see that this thread is permitted. Very gracious of TPTB here. I haven’t spent much time here lately but maybe I should take a look around, see how things are going in these parts.

Thanks for permitting this, Marley23. As I said in a previous PM, you and all the mods are free to join us over there.

It’s a good board. I hope everyone checks out all of the extant boards, old and new, and finds all the exciting stuff that’s going on!

It’s wonderful to find a place where everyone - the TPTB and members - are looking out for each other and living in harmony. They’re doing that through transparency and a mutual desire to make it a welcoming and inclusive place.

Looks good! I signed up over there.

It is an entertaining little place. Slightly floral with a hint of sharpness that contrasts with its chocolate-lol-cats undertones. Amusing, but not at all pretentious.

Actually, I have no idea what the heck that means. Ignore everything in this post after the first sentence. Including the previous sentence.

I’ve gone ahead and signed up there as well. Very familiar feel; old-school Dope with just a hint of that “startup” flavor I like to call New Board Smell. S’a good thing.

I’ll be sticking around here, too – no reason I can’t have the best of both worlds – but I’d heartily encourage others to sign up to Domebo. Good times, good people (and you know most of 'em already). Give it a shot.

Update on how to find it:www.domebo.net/forumwill take you to where you want to go.

Soon, it might not be 100% yet. DNS propagation goes at its own speed uncontrolled. By tomorrow it should be done based on my (limited) experience.

Yeah, the DNS was changed yesterday, and it usually takes 48–72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. Most people in Europe should be able to use the URL, and many American posters are also reporting that it’s working for them, now.

Just to say DNS has propagated through to Australia as well now too.

URL works fine in UK also, which wasn’t the case until recently.

Not abandoning the Dope but registered on Domebo as well.

I decided to move away from my current sensible username and try something a little more adventurous over there.

One feature I haven’t seen mentioned is the “Write Here, Write Now” forum, which is visible to members only. It’s a place where aspiring writers and/or hobbyists can show their work and receive feedback from the community.

I add my thanks to TPTB here for allowing this thread. Despite all of the recent controversy, Domebo is not, and is not intended to be, an “Anti-Dope” board. It’s a different board, still in it’s infancy, and developing its own style.

I haven’t used that particular forum, but I’ll consider finally unleashing my creative genius :dubious:

Joe

Excellent point, I should have stressed that it is not an “Anti-Dope” board. Just an alternative.

Is it DOpers MEssage BOard? Or does the name come from something totally different?

Yes, that is the source of the name. There were, however, a few jesting comments made along the lines of “Who’s Bo and why are we asking him/her to do us?”
