Regarding That Time Management Snafu By The Eagles

A friend of mine (who is an Eagles fan) told me today that reason the Eagles had such poor time management at the end of the Super Bowl was because Donovan McNabb was “throwing up in the huddle” and “dazed”, due to a concussion caused by a late Tedy Bruschi hit. He said Freddy Mitchell was calling the plays.

Umm, is this true? I didn’t ask for a cite, and truthfully, I havn’t looked for one. Have you guys heard anything about this?

What’s the straight dope?

Problem was that Joe Walsh can’t read music. He was always off on a tangent and throwing off Don with his crazy antics. Glen couldn’t take it anymore and just called the whole thing off. At least till “Hell froze over”.

What?

In his monologue tonight, Jay Leno mentioned McNabb was throwing up in the huddle, but that’s all I’ve heard.

LOL!

I see you’ve read my Jay Ferguson thread.

It’s at lsat partially accurate, according to Eagles center Hank Fraley. The article doesn’t mention a particular hit by Bruschi, but he does talk about McNabb throwing up and Freddie Mitchell calling plays.

Wow. I’m shocked Freddie Mitchell actually does something.

Rodney Harrison caught more of McNabb’s passes than Freddie Mitchell did.

FWIW, the McNabb throwing up thing (dry heaving as I heard it) was mentioned on ESPN and USA Today indicates there’s some question about what the effects were.

Some say mumbling, puking. Some say just coughing, and not really out of sorts.

I mean he did throw that sweet TD pass. He couldn’t have been too out of it.

Who knew his big mouth would turn out to be an asset?

Actually, since the Eagles couldn’t get to the line with any due haste, perhaps Mitchell was part of the problem. I can picture him injecting his own flair into play calls that would befuddle & bewilder teamates.

McNabb: (Throws up, breathes heavily)
Mitchell: (calls a play while thanking his mouth for being so great)
Rest of team: “Huh?”
Coach Reid:
Eagles fans in my living room: (Unspoken rage)

Marino once played an entire half against the Seahawks with a concussion…and won the game. To this day, he doesn’t remember a minute of it.

Let’s go “Inside the Moron’s Brain” now wiiiiith. . . Moody B!

  1. Upon reading the thread title, for some reason I assumed we were talking about the musical group. Not so bad, even so soon after Super Bowl Sunday. However:

  2. Upon reading the OP as quoted above, complete with references to Donovan McNabb and Tedy Bruschi, I, in all seriousness, mused how I could’ve missed hearing not only that (a) Don Henley et al. were playing the Super Bowl, but that (b) they were playing at the conclusion of the game. And now, according to this thread, they had been late getting started, because of, yes, of course, Donovan McNabb’s possible concussion. Which just threw off their entire performance. I sh*t you not. My thoughts.

  3. Much as gatopescado’s joke in post #3 should have put up a red flag, it only cemented this demented scenario further. Yes, throughout my reading of the Jay Leno monologue, the Freddy Mitchell/Rodney Harrison discussion, all of it. Me: Where did I miss hearing that the Eagles were playing after the Super Bowl.
How. . . how exactly did I learn to tie my shoes?

Unspoken rage? Must not be real fans then. Because I? Practically had a conniption. And I was having flashbacks, too: it was my Beloved Buffalo Bills, all over again.

Anyway, if you’re interested, here is an article from the San Jose Mercury News. Doesn’t really answer anything, though.

Velcro?

Heh!

Hey, don’t feel bad, I’ve had bigger brain farts than that!

McNabb is denying it in Sports Illustrated.

In the recent print issue (couldn’t find it online), Belichick taks about Freddie Mitchell and his magical mouth.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Belichick say anything like that about another player or coach, but it sure made me smile.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought the same exact things in the same order. It actually wasn’t until I read your post that I realized they weren’t talking about the band. :o

In my defense, I only scanned the posts in this thread.

McNabb says he wasn’t sick. Story

Scratching my head on this one…

oops, I see Enginerd beat me to it.

…and I gotta find that Belichick quote…that sounds WAY out of character for him…

Yeah, I was shocked… and a little pleased at the same time. It’s in this week’s SI with Rodney Harrison on the cover.

Well that’s weird…

So who’s lying here?
