Relief for piles medication

Hey there,

Weird question but my piles are flaring and I’m wondering what are the treatments out there.

Years ago, my doctor prescribed me this cream which soothes it immediately. I’m wondering what the name is.

I’ve tried preparation h but it’s not as effective as I thought.

What are the prescription medicine for piles that works?

Sorry you are having such pain.

I’ve had luck with a formulation called Scheriproct(active ingredients are a corticosteroid prednisolone hexanoate and a topical anesthetic Cinchocaine). That reduces inflammation and provides prompt pain relief.

Even if you cannot get that particular formulation in your area there are many treatments that include some sort of anti-inflammatory and a anesthetic.

Depends on how inflamed yours are, whether they’re thrombosed or not, and what you want the medicine to do.

For immediate pain relief, something with a ‘caine’ medicine in it, like benzocaine, dibucaine, or pramoxine (ok, no caine in it) help immediately.

To shrink and soothe them, stuff with astringents like witch hazel or zinc oxide are helpful. Topical steroid creams also help to do this, but shouldn’t be used regularly or they think the tissues too much.

To stop bleeding quickly, a preparation with phenylephrine in it can help.

To deal with an acute thrombosis when you can’t get the hemorrhoid lanced, topical nitroglycerine can help.

Otherwise, fiber, stool softeners, and not straining to pass stools helps minimize recurrences.

TYVM for beating me to it, Qadgop!

When I was in pre-pharmacy, I dated a man who, before I met him, had experienced some nasty hemorrhoids. He said, “Preparation H doesn’t do shit!” (no pun intended, BTW) and said that for him, Anusol was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

(There is a Preparation H knock-off called Formulation R. :stuck_out_tongue: We always found that quite amusing.)

Medical advice is best suited to IMHO.

I will be totally honest–I had that problem, and it got worse and worse. I used practically every medicine known, plus the fiber, sitz baths, etc.

Back in 2013, I was getting bleeding and it got to the point where I had to stuff toilet paper into my underwear.

And on July 4th of that year, I was sitting at my computer checking my email and my ass felt alll sticky. I figure it was because it was a hot day and humid. Nope–blood. My entire pants were soaked with blood. Tried to clean myself up–but to no avail. Huge drops of blood were falling and splattering on my bathroom floor. I was bleeding for three hours and lost a pint of blood.

So I went to the emergency room.

Scheduled for a colonoscopy the next morningh to rule out cancer. I drank a gallon of that crap stuff in three hours. I had to chug it down. Ugh.

Anyway–it came back okay, but hemmorhoids were an issue. Set up an appointent with an ass doctor.

I had to visit him FIVE times to have the 'roids/piles tied off. And I had to go every two weeks for this to be safe. So another 10 weeks to stop the bleeding. (though after the first tie-off, I only had bleeding every other day or so).

I really suggest (and I know this from experience) that will get worse. I don’t know how hold you are, but I had to have the 'roids tied off at 50 years old. I put up with it when I was 30.

I’d see your doctor and get a referral to an ass doctor (I don’t remember what they are called).

But–the tie-offs are not painful (just embarrassing).

But don’t wait.

NOTE: i still get occasional bleeding to this day, but it’s light and only lasts a day or two. And it only happens every couple of months.

OH–the ass doctor said you definitely don’t want real surgery to rip out those arteries/veins.

TheCuse, your case is definitely an outlier. The vast majority of hemorrhoid sufferers do not need surgery, fortunately. For every case of hemorrhoids I send to a surgical colleague for banding/excision/sclerosis, there’s probably close to 100 others than can be managed medically to the patient’s satisfaction.

But when the going gets tough, surgery can be the best option. I had one patient who bled so much he was chronically severely anemic, and he required banding.

Thanks for the advice!!

Unfortunately, Anusol is prescription only so the pharmacy refused to give it to me… they suggested Preparation H but in essence, it’s just a moisturiser and I doubt the effectiveness.

One pharmacy suggested Pilex, a herbal formulation, so I am trying it out.

No bleeding for me… just pain and irritating! It’s swollen and I can’t wipe my ass after ‘business’ - have to clean with water - which is troublesome in public toilets.

Teddy, where do you live?

I just looked up Anusol and it appears that the OTC formulation is now sold as Tucks.

“Ass doctors” :stuck_out_tongue: are professionally known as proctologists, gastroenterologists, or colorectal surgeons.

Neosporin with pain relief helps me.
