Remembering Last July 4th and My Hospital Stay

Long time lurker here…
It’s been exactly one year since my six-month recovery.
I remember fireworks scheduled in Grand Rapids and since I ordered a DSLR for delivery, I was going to take some awesome pictures from my hospital room window.
Well the fireworks started as promised, got out the camera, and used my walker to be next to the window.
The fireworks were beautiful.
The only problem was I forgot to charge the batteries.
:grimacing:
Press shutter release… nothing.

Hopefully this year will be a bit more fruitful.

Be wishes to all, be safe, and wear that dang mask.

Not what I expected from the thread, but it reminded me of a meme I saw a few days ago that read “Happy Fourth of July, there’s a lot of people out there right now that have no idea this will be the last day that they have all 10 fingers”.

Or eyes.
Son-of-a-wrek is shooting some small fireworks over the lake. It’s all I can do to keep the Grandwrex up here at the lakehouse with me. Especially the oldest boy. What is it with boys and exploding things?
:smack:

July 4th was one of my favorite days: cookouts or camping, time spent with friends and family, and big fireworks shows, or at least, drinking and a big campfire. I spent a great deal of 2018 in rehab and missed July 4th, among other holidays. I don’t get around too well now, so mostly stay indoors. The worst part about this holiday is that you can’t escape hearing all the fun others are having, if you aren’t.

I broiled some burgers, made some iced tea, then I went out on the porch a little while ago and watched some of the neighbors set off a few rockets. It beat the hell out of a nursing home. Whatever they try to do, they only make things sadder.

Face, it’s really good to hear you’re home and mobile!

Thank you. I’ve been home for over a year now - hard to believe. I don’t get out except for doctors appts, but at home at least I have some agency. It’s maddening to not have any say at all in your world. It’s like nothing I could have imagined. Just existing.

Lucky for us, you’re on the Dope.
