Exactly. I saluted a lot of officers in my 20+ years in the military that I would just as soon have punched, but it’s respect for the uniform, not the person.
Which is weird. Being elected to office really just means you convinced enough people to like or agree with you. Why does that deserve “respect” apart from common politeness or a flag being lowered? Are we appreciating the charisma?
Lowering the flag seems to be done a lot more than it used to. It’s done for all sorts of people, whereas it used to be done for presidents and a few others. The president or the governor of the state (or mayor of WDC) can order a flag to half-staff, according to the Flag Code, but there are conditions as outlined here.
Hey hey now! Pus is useful. The National Council for the Protection of Pus demands you take that back.
On the mouth? With tongue!?
Better than the other end.
D’Asshole thinks he’s scoring big big major points with his brainless nitpicks. You can’t help but laugh and feel a bit sorry for the guy. He probably took one of those online IQ tests and then actually believed the results.
Perhaps, but I think it’s just that he likes to derail threads to enjoy the responses and make it about him. Well, fuck him, he’s now the sole occupant of my “ignore” list and only the 2nd person to ever land there.

Pretty much SOP for these sorts of things.
I could see it in Alaska, but Oregon? Who cares?
All the voters who don’t live in Portland or Salem. There’s an election for a new governor coming up.

On the mouth? With tongue !?

Regarding the OP: It could be worse, and will. Alaska could revert to Russia. Not claiming that is the way it will be worse, just an example.
Silver lining to that is that it would put the Democrats in a clear majority in the Senate. Then we might be able to afford to lose Manchin’s (or Sinema’s, but not both) vote on a law or two.

All the voters who don’t live in Portland or Salem. There’s an election for a new governor coming up.
So they don’t have enough local assholes? They have to venerate someone up in Alaska?
So you won’t even acknowledge the multiple factual errors you’ve made in this thread. That’s not fighting ignorance, it’s perpetuating ignorance.
Which excuse are you going with? Old/addled/psychiatric issues/other?
I’m glad that at least @D_Anconia agrees that Young was a corrupt, slimy POS. It gives me hope for further cooperation.
You never acknowledge your mistakes, which are large and numerous. By what logic are you in a position to criticize others for transgressions that you never address yourself?
Pandering for votes knows no limits.

You never acknowledge your mistakes
In a thread about a long-serving Republican congresscritter, such behavior seems entirely appropriate.
He feeds on other’s scorn and was feeling hungry. He jumped into this thread to try and make it about him. He partially succeeded. No one who actually cared about the issues or any issues would use such a feeble argument.
So there is my contribution to keep him fed.
Sarah Palin is considering running to replace him.
