Report from Ground Zero - Christmas shopping madness

My office window overlooks an entrance to the major parking garage used by people coming into San Francisco via the Bay Bridge. This garage is very close to Union Square, hence its popularity with shoppers.

There’s been a steady stream of cars filing into the garage and much honking. Between the car alarms, impatient people and drivers reacting to stupid drivers that do things like turn left from the right-hand lane, it’s been a cacophany of hooting, honking, warbling, wailing, bleating and beeping beeping beeping.

What ever happened to Christmas spirit and love thy neighbor and thou shalt not covet someone else’s parking spot?

I’d say that I can’t wait until December 26, but that’s when the mobs converge for after-christmas sales, returns and exchanges.
The scary thing is it’s not even the heavy shopping season yet. The true mayhem is in the last week - that’s when the two or three block-long line of cars waiting to get into the garage happens.
