Just kidding. Looking for clarification: This morning in a fit of lazy, I used the “report this post” to ask that the Las Vegas thread be closed, since another had been opened and I didn’t want people to get all confused.
I did this because sometimes even clicking on the mods name to get the e-mail addy and such takes eons on here, and it seemed a quicker, more efficient way to do this.
It says right on it to use that function for spamming, rule breaking types of posts. I used it assuming it does the same thing that that function does on other message boards- sends e-mail to the mod/mods of that forum.
Did I do bad? If so, will I get a good, hard spanking for it?
As I recall, the last time this came up, the consensus seemed to be that the “spam and trolling” verbage was standard vBulletin boilerplate that nobody’s bothered to change yet, and that the mods didn’t mind it any more than any other sort of e-mail. But wait for a mod to say so, too.
And if it makes you feel any better about it, I’ll spank you for it anyway.
I was gonna reply to you per e-mail, but forgot. Yeah, you did well, and there shall be no spanking. Using the “Report this post to a moderator” function is preferable in 99% of all cases, because:[ul][]It’s just one hit on the server to collect all relevant e-mail addresses;[]All the moderators for the relevant forum are informed immediately; It ensures a link to the offending post and thread. We can do without the first, but in regular e-mail, people tend to forget the latter about 30% of the time, resulting in a thread hunt. “Could you please fix my vB code in that one thread in MPSIMS?” doesn’t really help me out, you see.[/ul]So, in short, by all means, use the “Report this post to a moderator” function.
