Republicans are ALWAYS the REAL victims!

All respect, but…why??

I’ll hazard a guess that the ceremonial stuff was all that Measure was expecting Trump to do, that he’d flit from event to meaningless event where he could be the center of attention, while the drudgery of government would be left to underlings.

I suspect that the majority senate wanted the same. He would just sign off on their bills while they funneled money into their pockets.

It’s sort of working for them. What they didn’t expect was the pyromaniac THEY set lose in a dry forest. It’s slowing the business at hand (enriching themselves) down.

This reminds me of a Grover Norquist quote from many moons ago:
*
“We don’t need someone who can think. We need someone with enough digits to hold a pen.”*

And this:
*
“My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.”*
These quotes seem horrifyingly prophetic now.

I’m still at a loss as to why this asshole was ever influential in the GOP.

Republicans are ALWAYS the REAL victims!

Makes as much sense as Republicans are always the REAL villain.

OTIO

No, it was always quite obvious.

Nah, just clueless.

Which part do you disagree? If you think Republicans are always the real villain, you are as delusional as Trump.

To point out hypocrisy on one side does not mean there is not hypocrisy on the other.

I literally have no idea what you’re talking about, but I think you may have missed some of the sarcasm intended in the OP and thread title.

Who, if anyone, thinks this? Republican villainy has certainly been on prominent display these last ~30 years, but they don’t have a monopoly.

I keep waiting for the light to come on for you about the Republican party, and you keep throwing stuff out there like this. The fact you’re a left wing nut job to Republicans is just screaming the truth about them to you. You just refuse to admit it.

After seeing this reply:

I agree: clueless. I bet he votes, too.

Admit? What is there to admit?

I have also hung out and posted on a message board for the flat earth society. They didn’t like my viewpoints either.

My actual sincere point is that I had no idea how much I have in common with the leftist true believers, right wing true believers, and flat earthers.

That commonality is that without being aware of it, I work extremely hard to maintain my current beliefs. I have a lot in common with all three groups.

What makes me relatively unique and special (and better than you, neener, neener) is that I am aware of just how pervasive and powerful bias can be and take steps to try to mitigate it.

I find this genuinely adorable.

That the massive base of their party is further right than anyone claiming some kind of independence or objectivity should be comfortable with. That the party caters to and enables racists, bigots, and scared idiots as their largest voting block. That the leaders of the Republican party don’t have the morals and spine to stand up to Trump.

See I don’t work extremely hard to maintain my current beliefs. They change, usually based on evidence, reason, and priorities. I challenge my own beliefs and hold them up to be challenged, so I can ensure they’re tested and correct. I certainly hold onto my morality and work to try to do the right thing, but I don’t blindly hold to beliefs just because they’re the ones I had 20 years ago.

I think it’s great you’re willing to come onto a clearly left leaning message board and engage. I did the same for a long time, but the noise/hate/stupidity to meaningful debate ratio on “conservative” message boards reached insane levels, especially when Obama was elected and even more when Trump was. But from what I’ve seen of your posts (admittedly not much), you’re simply rationalizing your support for the Republican party. Such is your bias.

I spent a lot of time over at Christianforums back in early 2016, as well as dabbling in a few other political forums. The general rule I found was that the more republicans you had, the worse the signal/noise ratio got.

It wasn’t simply a matter of “liberals get more shit thrown their way”. On this forum, conservatives get a lot of shit for their views (deservedly IMHO), but that’s not what I’m talking about. Instead, what happens is that the overall ability of the forum to hold any kind of actual conversation just goes down the drain completely. And given the nature of republican politics recently, this makes perfect sense. How do you hold a discussion when the basic facts of the discussion cannot be established, because one side has no trust for any news source that says things they dislike?

One forum had frequent threads on climate change, and the response from right-wingers in those threads was literally just picture after picture (photoshopped/drawn, obviously) of people holding up bic lighters to temperature measuring stations. Fucking really, that was their argument - the data couldn’t be trusted because people were messing with the measuring stations. On Christianforums, one particularly noxious set of trolls took to every politics thread to spam nothing but pointless pro-trump memes, along the lines of “Can’t Stop The Trump Train”. Sorting through that shit, baseless sniping like people shouting “FAKE NEWS” at any source they disliked, or insane conspiratorial nonsense meant that you’d end up with maybe one or two posts worth reading per page. Finding a right-winger who was actually able to hold an honest debate was so rare that I was fucking relieved to see Shodan show up, “Regards” and all (in retrospect, this should have been proof positive that I needed to leave and never look back; any time you’re happy to see Shodan on a forum is a bad time). Say what you will about leftbook’s disturbing tolerance for tankies, but their response when challenged is generally to debate, not just call you a cuck or a nazi.

You’re right. I can’t imagine any place bad enough that I would want Shodan to show up.

Notwithstanding the weekly cross burnings, of course. The only question is whether Grand Master Shodan forces his adopted daughter to participate in the conflagration. Intellectual racists like Grand Master Shodan, David French, and even Laura Ingraham import and adopt children of color not to just to appear more cosmopolitan but to inoculate themselves against accusations of racism. It is offensive when white supremacists use children of color as props.

TIL the word “tankie”.
