Could you explain exactly how gerrymandering would change/alter a statewide vote for POTUS, or a statewide vote for U.S. Senator?
Are you suggesting that political party leadership have been redrawing the state’s borders? Moving the Mississippi, or Colorado River, perhaps? Trading parcels of land with Canada?
“High crimes and misdemeanors” are whatever Congress says they are. They could impeach him for wearing white (including a white inner pocket lining) after Labor Day, if they so chose.
My bad. I stand corrected. Gerrymandering doesn’t play into the Presidential vote.
I’ve been reading up on it, and the Democrats have to do something about it if they ever hope to have impact in Congress. I understand this is one of the things Obama intends to work on in his post-Presidential years.
I tell ya, the more I read, the more respect I have for the way Republicans do things. Not.
The President is supposed to be impeached in the case of “high crimes or misdemeanors.” Yes, Congress can interpret that however they want, but it would be truly bizarre to interpret it this way, and would open the door for impeachment of anyone for anything, which if you’re a politician isn’t a trend you like. Remember what their first priority is.
An executive order, however awful or imbecilic, isn’t a high crime. No one refers to such things as crimes. It might be unconstitutional and be stomped by the courts, but unsuccessfully attempting to make law what is later deemed unconstitutional is not in itself a crime, either, or the prisons would be filled to the brim with legislators and governors and such who’d passed laws later struck down by the courts. Anyway, mandatory registration of Muslims is almost certainly unconstitutional but most Republicans would love the idea, so why would they impeach him? They’d lap that shit up. Internment camps would probably get past a Republican congress.
If Trump’s going to be impeached, it’ll be for an actual crime, and knowing Trump, it will involve corruption and theft. The stench of corruption is already wafting through Washington as Trump gets ready to appoint his kids to high positions. If they want to impeach him, Congress will be able to find a genuine reason if they want.
If 2016 Trump reverts back into 1996 Trump, they will find an excuse to impeach him and it will be the sorry task of the Democrats to keep him in power. It will never happen. Just like a trump nomination will never happen and a Trump presidency will never happen.
I think you worry too much. I doubt Eisenhower, Reagan and George W Bush combined could have pulled this off. I know too many soldiers and police to think that even a small minority of them would go along with this even if he was being replaced by a democratically elected Hillary or Jane Fonda.
I think the idea is that Trump would resign for a minute, Pence would pardon him, then Pence would name Trump as his VP and then resign, making Trump President again. But it wouldn’t be quite that simple, because once Pence became President, he doesn’t get to appoint whoever he wants as VP, he needs the Senate to confirm the nomination.
Federal laws? To strictly enforce regulation of private companies hiring practices? Sounds like there would have to be a pretty big government entity to enforce that, wouldn’t it?
And here I thought that Republicans wanted small government and less regulations.
If Trump is impeached it will probably be for blatant interference with the IRS, either to force them to go after his enemies or to shut down audits of his personal, corporate, and foundation taxes.
And why would congressional Republicans impeach him over this? As long as he goes after mutual enemies? Have you seen who is in office? I think they’d applaud if he did this.
I didn’t specify, but State and Federal laws would be required.
The federal government hires people. The state governments hire people. Public companies hire people. Private companies hire people.
The same police agencies which are currently charged with enforcing state and federal laws could pick up the few remaining illegal aliens who chose to illegally stay in the U.S.A…
I think it would be funny if the GOP is leading the impeachment charge to get him out of their hair (and to install Pence) and the Democrats have to try to fight against impeachment to make them wallow in the Trump suckitude and keep Pence out.
