G’morning, kiddos! I’m up and have made corned beef hash from the leftovers of the NYD brisket. It was good.
It’s been pretty chilly in NM, and we’ve even had some snow, but not much here in ABQ, most of the snow was in the southern parts of the state. The mountains and ski areas are happy, and it’s good for the drought, which will probably continue because we can’t get enough precipitation now, apparently. Oh well!
On tap for this weekend will be some laundry and I swear, I am doing “holiday” cards today. Yes, that’s right, I didn’t mail out my Christmas card so I’m calling em holiday card now but at least they’ll still get in the mail. Hopefully before Epiphany.
Sending good thoughts and prayers to any and all who need them. Enjoy the day!
My sweetie is not a happy camper. He’s been at the office since around 7 or so doing a redesign. He just called me - they’re changing something again and he has to re-redesign… It also means that half of what I did yesterday has to be done again once the design is finalized.
People seem to think that engineers can magically pull things out of their respective asses based on whims. He’s working on a pitot system - both the static and pressure lines - and he has a very limited area to run the lines. Twice he has figured it out, and let’s hope the third time is the charm. Oh, and this is on an aircraft project that was approved in 2010. They want to fly on Jan 15. All of a sudden, everything is critical. Your tax dollars at work. Mine too, come to think of it.
Anyway, he won’t be home for at least another couple of hours. That sucks.
The static line measures ambient air pressure - the port is typically located on the side of the aircraft, flush with the skin - it’s several small air holes in a fitting connected to an aluminum tube. The pressure lines end in a pitot tube which is in the airstream - usually offset from the aircraft to avoid turbulent air. Comparing the two pressures gives airspeed. In this particular case, the lines are fed to an Air Data Computer. That’s what he’s doing - designing the lines that connect from the aircraft’s existing pitot system to the new ADC. And once he finishes his design, I do the purty drawings to show the techs where the lines are run, how much to torque the fittings, and how to connect to the ADC.
What do I use for what? The drawings? SolidWorks. In fact, I designed, modeled, and drew an installation for an outside air temp probe entirely in SolidWorks - it was purty!! Then they decided they’d just drill a hole in the fuselage and poke the probe out. I gotta say, based on the little bit I’ve dealt with this project over the last 2 weeks, I wouldn’t get in the plane. No way.
The house is de-Christmassed and I have dusted and scrubbed the kitchen. Mr ems vacuumed a couple of days ago so I am calling that good enough. Tomorrow I will do our bathroom. We were planning on going to see The Hobbit this afternoon but mr ems woke up at 5am as his back was hurting so is now snoozing in the recliner. I will see how he feels in about 30 mins or so. I will go fold towels as I can do that quietly.
This is the first day in almost a wek I have actually had energy to do stuff. I feel so much better.
A good friend of mine said she wanted to name her first born Gertrude and sure hoped her first born would be a girl.
I have decided that I am goin’ to the Epiphany Party. I don’t feel as germy and since I have not left da cave all day it would do me good to get out for a bit.
