Revisiting covid denial and covid restrictions

The CDC had a little bit of soreness at the site of the injection, and it hasn’t caught covid since then.

Correct, healthy, uninfected people can’t spread it to any great extent, yes.

However:

  • Healthy people can catch it (but not so much if they minimise contact with other people)
  • Apparently-healthy people can spread it if they are infected asymptomatically (but not so much if they minimise contact with other people)
  • Infected people who have not yet begun to show symptoms (but later will) can spread it (but not so much if they minimise contact with other people)
  • Testing capacity was in short supply (so it was not possible to reliably figure out who was infectious at any given moment)
  • Tests, when available, only show your infection status at that moment in time (so if you’re mixing with other people, yesterday’s test is quickly irrelevant)
  • The most commonly-available tests were not expected to be 100% accurate
  • The mechanisms and probabilities of infection were not clearly and completely understood, beyond ‘it seems to be pretty virulent’
  • Outcomes were severe for some people, even people who seemed otherwise fit and healthy.

All of those things (and no doubt other factors I haven’t thought to list) make quarantining everyone a sensible precaution.

I know, right? A week after my fourth COVID booster, I tripped on a paving stone and broke my finger. Never again!

Edit: /s

I ate food this morning and now at 6pm I’m hungry. Clearly eating food causes hunger. I’m gonna stop eating. That’ll solve that problem!

I got my moderna shots in April & June of 2021. I told people it felt like Tom Brady hit me in the arm.
He then retired.
You’re welcome/ Sorry.

New info? A new study found risk of all adverse heart events (heart attack, strokes, etc., including myocarditis) was significantly lower after infection among vaccinated people, compared to unvaccinated people. This lasted for up to 12 months for most heart outcomes. While this is not a randomized control trial, it’s an impressive study—they compared 10 million vaccinated to 10 million unvaccinated people with some nice, clean analyses. I was disappointed, though, that they didn’t assess differences in this relationship by age.

This is not the same as “does vaccination cause cardiac problems?” but does speak to the role of this vax in preventing post-vax, post-infection cardiac problems.

Thanks! I was just coming in to post the exact same thing.

A direct contradiction to the misinformation @Lexi128 is trying to spread. This study compared 10 million (yes you read that right) vaccinated to 10 unvaccinated. In every cardiovascular category (including the heart failure @Lexi128 is trying to imply was due to the vacciine), vaccines are PROTECTIVE following a covid infection. Some of the protective effects are huge as expected (blood clots).

Sorry, I missed your reply. I’m a “mature” adult over 60 who is extremely healthy except for a couple of issues that are controlled with meds. BP and auto-immunes diseases. I had the cardiac issue in March 2023 and had a stent placed in June 2023. I do nothing in excess, I weigh 120lbs. I enjoy every day to the fullest and will have an adult beverage on occasion. Have a nice day, I’m going golfing…

I know a family where they were originally hesitant to get the vaccine. Then in late fall of 2021, they finally decided to get their shots. But by the time they decided to get the shots, they were already infected (they didn’t know it until after they decided to get the shots). The husband died. The mom & son got very sick but survived. They ended up not getting the shots. Seems they should’ve gotten the shots, but decided the opposite. The son was angry about the politics around the vaccine & covid in general, and blamed both Dems & Pubs. Everyone is entitled to their own view, but I think he was mistaken to put a pox on both houses, as the vast majority of misinformation was coming from one side.

Your definition of “extremely healthy” is . . . interesting.

No mention of family history either.

Heart disease in women can mask itself and stay hidden for a long while before you having a serious heart issue…(IANAD)

Wow! For a 74 year old woman, I’m very healthy!! So how about you GFY. I’ve been on this board for less than a month and it’s not for me! Sounds too opinionated to me!!

Clearly,

Opinion noted.

I don’t know what.GFY is. I assume it’s bad.
And you’ve been modded for it.

But…don’t go away mad. There are opinionated folks here. But there’s fun stuff too.

Read a bunch of threads and get the lay of the land.

Go F*** Yourself is my guess.

I see. Sometimes I’m kinda slow on the uptake.

It’s rich in irony though.

Do most 74 year old women use this phrase? I can’t think of many.
