My dad and I somehow got to talking about Ric Ocasek and David Byrne today and I mentioned something about how it was too bad that Ocasek was dead.
“No, he’s not dead.”
“Oh yes, I’m quite sure. Died a few years ago. Cancer, I believe.”
“Ric Ocasek is NOT dead.”
“YES - HE - IS!”
“Look it up.”

I think a bunch of people were confused when Benjamin Orr, bassist for the Cars (and lead singer on “Drive”) died, a few years ago, from a brain tumor.
Benjamin Orr died October 3, 2000 of pancreatic cancer, not a brain tumor.

I think Ric Ocasek is just one of those people who looks like he’s been dead a few years. Hence the confusion.
Is he still married to Pauline Porizikova?
I remember Casey Kasem describing them as a couple that’s collectively over 12 feet tall.
Maybe it’s because Ocasek is a dead ringer for Joey Ramone, who is dead.
My dad wouldn’t have a clue as to who Ric Ocasek is. In fact he’d probably insist he was a cowboy actor from the 30s that always rode a pinto.
