Awesome! You’re in for a treat!
Until this moment I thought Groundrick Day was the original and unaired pilot if R&M, but it turns out to have been fan-made
It is a good episode, too.
Doc and Mharti js still real, though.
Okay, watched the next two. I will now add them to the overall ranking list. From here on, the NEW episodes watched will be both in bold and have “—” before them. The older episodes will remain on the list so you can see where I’d rank them ALL on a “best to worst” scale, but for obvious “clean up” purposes, I will remove my thoughts on them from the previous post and ONLY post my thoughts on whatever new episodes I have watched.
This is how the ranking list will go from here on, as I make my way through the series.
Sometimes I may just watch one new episode at a time, sometimes two……rarely, three or four before “updating” the ranking list again, but I will try to do it at least once daily.
Anyways, here are the rankings and thoughts on the new episodes I saw:
BEST EPISODE, IMO
–-M Night Shaym-Aliens: So far EVERY NEW episode has been a little better than the one before it. Surely it won’t last, I mean, there has to be a ceiling for the awesomeness, you’d think. This one was just SO well written, though. It was the first occurrence of the show being SUPER smart (as I’ve heard many people tell me the show would be before I started. “Too smart for me” is a description I’d hear often) with all of the simulations in simulations and references to past simulations. Job well done. I was very impressed with this episode. I feel it will be hard to top, but then again, I didn’t expect each one to be even better than the last FOUR episodes in. We’ll see how episode five is, but it’s gonna have to be mighty impressive. This one, so far, is the best episode I’ve seen of it.
–-Anatomy Park: This one was better than the two before it, but the one after it beat it. Seems like they’re just getting better and better. This one was very entertaining and fun. I loved the mirroring of Jurassic Park. It had a lot of feels of Disneyland and Inside Out as well, but with the Rick and Morty dark humor thrown in. Overall, very enjoyable.

––Meeseeks and Destroy: YEESH… I knew the “every episode, from the start, has been better than the last” thing couldn’t have kept going. This one was not good at all, IMO. I mean, it wasn’t bad….it was good if I expected dark SERIOUS rather than dark FUNNY, kinda like Morel Orel did, but this one had a lot of serious downer things,
such as Morty almost being raped, the meeseeks taking hostages with guns at heads, and Morty’s parents crumbing marriage
. I mean, I like it being serious sometimes and see that it can be very much so now, but the
rape scene
brought this one down heavily. If it wasn’t for that, this one might have been ranked ABOVE the Pilot episode, but it can only be THE WORST ONE I’VE SEEN SO FAR. Let’s see if it will ever be beat (it’ll be a bit hard, after some scenes in this one)
WEAKEST EPISODE, IMO
Oh man, I love the Meeseeks episode! But I can get how it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
This is pretty par for the course for the series, so you might be disappointed by future seasons.
Nah, if it turns INTO it, it’ll be fine. As I said, Morel Orel started out funny, but turned very serious dark by its last season. As long as I know what I’m gonna get, it’s good. I didn’t dislike this episode… I mostly rated it low just for the sexual assault scene. Now I know to expect a blend of dark funny and dark serious. Have faith in me, I’m loving this show.
BEST EPISODE, IMO
M Night Shaym-Aliens
––Rick Potion #9: This episode started out as one thing, but slowly evolved into something else and I loved it. See, now THIS one is an example of DARK SERIOUS being done well. The last 5 minutes or so especially, when
Morty had to see, handle, carry, and bury his own dead self (from another dimension
….and it was so clever how it tied back into the main story. Had this not happened like this and that happened like it should, then this would have not or rather happened and yadda yadda BAM…..easy fix, leading it all nicely together. Well, except for
now-traumatized Morty in a world that are just like his parents, but still different ones.
Just fell short of being the best, IMO.

WEAKEST EPISODE, IMO
Do you have any future episodes in mind that you’re already thinking “I BET/HOPE/KNOW he’s gonna rank that one AT THE TOP once he watches it!”
Rick Potion #9 is one of the greats, and I see you liked it but not quite the best.
Rixty Minutes is hilarious. So is episode 10 of season 1, and episode 4 is season 2 might be my all time favorite.
Last one for today….
BEST EPISODE, IMO
M Night Shaym-Aliens
Rick Potion #9
Anatomy Park
––Raising Gazorpazorp: This one felt a little weak in some area and strong in others, but all round, a bit of a more weak episode, I’d say. Not bad, though. Half and half simply with “weak” edging out “good” by just a smidgen. I LIKE how Morty is standing up more for himself as he’s also done in the last few episodes, saying when he’s mad and why he’s mad….but ONE thing I HATE is whenever Rick goes on those “talking to the camera/breaking 4th wall” monologues “HEYYYYYY, I JUST INVENTED A NEW CATCH PHRASE” “HEYYYYYY, KEEP WATCHING TO SEE HOW WE GET OUT OF THIS” “HEY, WE’RE GONNA GO ON SO MANY ADVENTURES, CUZ WE’RE RICK AND MORTY…SEE YOU NEXT WEEK BELCH” Ugh. I don’t mind breaking of the 4th wall when it’s done good, like even in this very episode it was done great….but when it’s blatant and unfunny and only serves to deliver REPETITIVE INFO to the watcher… or, worse, to ‘FORCE’ humor and new memes, that’s…..kinda lame, which is why this one is ranked a bit lower than halfway. But ya know, in the long run, AS THIS LIST GROWS, it may be pushed more toward the top……………or may wind up sinking lower and lower until it’s very bottom tier. I guess time will tell. Wubba Lubba Dub Dub……THAT’S HIS THING NOW GUYS. HIS THING NOW, HE SAYS THAT… REMEMBER THAT, GUYS, A WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB…YEEAH…. BURP
Lawnmower Dog
Pilot’
Meeseeks and Destroy
WEAKEST EPISODE, IMO
Brace yourself for lots of hate to come.
And multiple episodes along the theme of “making a show is hard, so fans should quit complaining”.
Well, I guess it will all pan out in the end…either I’ll dislike those episodes and will rank them low or at the bottom, but then that improves the status/ranking of all those above them, making them better thought of and bumping them nearer to the top of the rankings overall.
I mean, say I dislike every episode from here on and never like another one thereafter. Doesn’t matter. It’s a ranking list and the more I tack on at the bottom and the longer the list gets as a whole (think of it 100 or 200 episodes on the list instead of just seven)…the THEN HIGHER the ones ranked right now are, because with 100 on the list and all of them one rank lower than the one before it, that would suddenly make Meeseeks and Destroy in the TOP SEVEN (of 100)… see what I mean? Suddenly, it’s thought by me to be AN AMAZING episode and, really, the top 20 would probably be.
So I feel it will all ..what’s the word…the list will adapt. Plus I’m fairly sure I won’t be hating any episode unless it is blatant garbage all the way through. I haven’t disliked an episode yet, just parts of some…and while that does make me rate it at the bottom, it’s still not a “dislike the one at the bottom” list… merely a “I feel it’s the weakest”.
Trust me, I’ll let you know when and if I ever DISLIKE an episode…and—as the list grows larger—I will even put in sub headings off “really love”, “love”, “like”, “okay”, “meh”, “not good”, “dislike”, “hate”…etc.
So far of the ones I’ve seen, ALL would be under LOVE or LIKE.
But those will come later. Wait until I get at least 20-30 on the list, heh…
Two or three more coming today.
Part of the show is that on some abstract, out there in the ether level, Rick seems to be vaguely aware they are on a TV show. More accurately, the writers will just have him say things about the show once in awhile even though within the canon of the show…..he clearly does NOT think he’s on a show.
Deadpool is much more aware he is in a comic or movie. Rick doesn’t typically seem to think that way, but will once in awhile say something to us, the viewer.
It’s not a very serious show and I mean that in a good way. They can just do that and move on and pretend Rick didn’t just say, “Hey, what a great season, right?”
BEST EPISODE, IMO
M Night Shaym-Aliens
—Rixty Minutes: This was hard. It almost dethroned number one, but in the end, I decided that M Night Shaymaliens was simply too good of a mindfuck to be knocked out just yet. I mean that one was funny, had a twist ending, and was cleverly intelligent all round.
THIS ONE…is also very, very good. First, the good. See, the drama in this one was done the way Morel Orel eventually handled it, it was WELL WRITTEN and not just done for out of the blue shock value like Morty being attempted raped. I loved the more serious parts in this one. Call backs to previous episodes were also great. This one was well written too, extremely funny, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Some downsides however…not many…but sometimes 90 percent of the show seems scripted and the other ten seems…improvised. This is not my complaint, though, I don’t mind it that way and it’s usually good. That ten percent of improvisation? 95 percent (yes, OF THAT TEN PERCENT–still following me? Heh) of it is GOOD…
but alas, the last 5 percent is forced, unfunny, and often goes on way too long. I could hear the voice actor crack himself up before it cut away at one point
(when Gazorpazorpfield was cursing Jon out).
Or when the TWO BROTHERS trailer was up
…end the joke already. It was funny 2 minutes ago…but now that it’s been a full FOUR MINUTE JOKE, it’s gotten stale.
No worries, though…none of this is enough to get me to dislike the show or rate it low. As you can see, it’s the second best one I’ve seen so far, almost the best. So comments to this like “Oh man, the HATE TRAIN WILL BE COMING soon, because they DO IT A TON AND IT ONLY GETS WORSE”…it’s just not gonna happen. I mention stuff like this merely as a REVIEW process, that’s all. It’s not a deal breaker for me watching or not. It will never make me hate the show or anything like that. Even if it gets worse, that’s fine, it’s not ever gonna make a difference much. I’m just striving for a review, so I want to be honest and include things I wasn’t overly fond of too.
The near perfect or perfect episode of this has NOT yet been seen, but I sense I WILL see it eventually. I saw A PART of one while at a recent visit to my cousin (I think it was from this newest season, though) that looked GREAT. It’s what prompted me to start watching it, in fact. I saw about 10 mins of Rick and Morty fighting through the credits with a mr Flashback creature and meeting OTHER meta story villains like mr twist ending and ms red herring. YES…now that episode I think I WILL LOVE. I LOVE meta things like that and that episode was extremely impressive and good even though I had no idea what the hell was going on. I only saw about 10 minutes of it, though, sadly. Ah well, I will reach it in this watching eventually.

—Something Ricked This Way Comes: PLEASE WELCOME…OUR NEW NUMBER ONE (so far).
This was the first GREAT episode, IMO. There have been good and very good, but now we finally have GREAT, and it’s still just season one. I hear later seasons are only better.
Anyways, it’s all centered around my favorite Stephen King novel of all time, NEEDFUL THINGS. But not only that, I find that the writing is GREAT in this episode…the best it has ever been. None of the moments seemed improvised either, it seems it was all entirely, 100 percent scripted (as in, wrote out in advance and lines memorized). I don’t know if all of them are like that or not, but in the last episode, some monologues made me think…not so much.
So best writing so far. Both A and B storylines were fun, engaging, and interesting. Also hilarious. The OOOOOOONLY place where it went off the rails a bit was the last three minutes or so when Rick and Summer take the time to get super buff to kick the asses of a ton of people and the devil. Now, now…I know that is proooooobably not gonna be canon. It’s silly, though, I know. Done for that purpose, so it’s all good…but still, I’m always gonna like a bit more of “CANON OFFICIALLY” (AS IN, continuing storyline) over non canon, as in “muscles disappear and they’re normal again by next episode”. But again, it’s all good..and I’m sure that sort of thing will happen MANY MORE TIMES, probably in MUCH BIGGER AMOUNTS, eventually. I’m prepped for it. I’ll worry about the ranking of those when I get to them.
THIS episode, though? GREAT. Not yet really great or super great or near perfection…but great is a milestone for these rankings so…yeah

Just making sure, you know there are post-credits scenes with each episode?
Yep. The last one was a still buff Summer and Rick beating the shit out of various riff raff.
I wonder if @Idle_Thoughts might want to start a “viewing thread” type thing for his experience instead of this one. I like reading his thoughts, but we often use this one for new episode discussions, etc.
I think someone just did this with Battlestar Galactica. Might be a great way to have all your rankings and thoughts in one, separate place.
Up to you!
